I am trying to run a DVI to HDMI cable from my video card to my new HDTV...

The TV says "Unsupported signal. Check your signal output."

I am using a sony 50" sxrd and it supports this stuff...i just can't get it to work. Any ideas what is going on?

Don't forget to try restarting. My integrated Intel graphics often wouldn't work with my Sceptre HDTV without a power cycle. It behaved as if I'd plugged the TV into the non-DDC2 port of my splitter (can't send any information to the graphics chip), which was also a nono. Eventually I just bought an nvidia card, which seems to handle whatever the TV's weird requirement is much more reliably.

What video card / resolution?

HDMI needs 720p (1280x720) or 1080p (1920x1080). If it's an ATI card you may have a tougher time getting it to work right away. Make sure you have the latest video card drivers and setup the resolution with a monitor before hooking it up to the TV.

most importantly what are the specs of the display?

Well as long as he's trying a standard resolution like 480p / 720p, then that would be a good place to start.

Depends on the input though. My HDMI is picky as hell and not supported...works though after you tinker with it for a day or two;)

well, we both have the sony KDS-50a2000 right? What are you sending to it? Wouldn't those exact same settings work for me also?

My Dad had this problem...on his Panasonic plasma it was because the HDMI connection specified that it was not meant to be used for a computer.

1080p is 1920x1080, not 1680x1050.

Try 1280x720p just to see if you can get that working first.

cc probably just noted the PC input. input 8 I think as being PC compatible. BUt the manual stats the high resolution is 12xx by 768. dont' remember the number off the top of my head.

I'm a bit lazy to drag my MCE down stairs tonight. I can take a stab at it tomorrow and tell you if you haven't figured it out by then. I have the 55 inch.

scratch that, I'll do it now, since most of the shows tonight are repeats.

no luck for me. what's odd is anything higher than 1280 x 768 will not work.

even 1380 x 768 doesn't work either. Maybe I should try out the PC input to make sure all the inputs work. the odd thing is catalyst control center knows the tv supports up 1920 x 1080 but can't seem to display it.

I have a Nvidia 7600 GT OC that is hooked to my Panasonic TH-50PX60U through a DVI -> HDMI cable and it won't display the native resolution of 1366x768 and I still can't figure out why. All it does is 1280x720. Anyone know why this may be? It says the native resolution isn't valid.

If I remember correctly, TV's normally "throw away" pixels so to do 1366x768 you would have to enable 1:1 pixel mapping if your TV has it.

My 32" LCDTV displays the native 1366x768 with my ATI card.. granted I'm using VGA since my video card is old and doesn't have dual-DVI, and my main desktop display gets the DVI. :/
