Hey.. I dont quite understand the fine line between Ericcson the original company and Sony-ericcson joint venture..

Was wondering if there was anythiing happening in Ericcson or if they were planning to introduce some kinda new technology, etc which might affect their stock price?

Thanks

Sony Ericsson makes phones

Ericsson makes the Switching equipment for the Carriers.

Switching equipment is getting like the Computer, a commodity and other small start-up companies are starting to bite into Ericsson's Market there too.

Yes it is Swedish.
It started out as LM Ericsson AB, making phones way back. They continued to grow and began making both civil and military equipment. They are a large supplier of military radar sustems (Ericsson Microwave Systems) and communications equipment. Ericsson has been making cell phones for many years but suffered huge losses starting around 2000. To remedy the problem they cut the employees by around 25-30% on the civilian side. The military side wasa the only part of Ericsson that actually made money.
They joined forces with Sony to make cellphones.
