Erase & use a write protected SD Memory Card?

I bought a Palm m500 from someone and they threw in a bunch of SD cards with some programs on them... the thing is, these programs are useless to me... however, the memory card could be of use to me =) So I'm wondering... can I just cut a knotch in the side of the card in the same place there's one on a regular SD card to allow me to erase what's on it and use it for other stuff?

is the memory EEPROM? If not, then no. It would be like trying to erase a CD.
