That'd work...

It probably WOULD work...but I think that'd have to be a last resort. Besides, you KNOW BP wants to drill the relief well so they can get the oil...not just plug the hole.

Oh I never claimed that this would work. Personally I think it's a horrible idea. The illustration just shows HOW they did it in one particular example. Some think they're just dropping a nuke on a hole, crossing their fingers and pushing a button.

No mention has been made to make this site serviceable again. Apparently drilling of a relief well is not an exact science either so this could go on for many months longer than the August timeline that has been discussed everywhere.

Even if the cap was 100% successful the top side would have to "cut and run" upon approach of a tropical cyclone, for example.

Yeah this is going to be a mess for a long, long time. :(

One thing for sure after seeing this thing.

Anyone that says we are running out of oil is off their fucking rocker.

Why would you say that?

You do realize there are 1000's of wells in the region like this one - many producing 10s of thousands of barrels of crude. The only thing bad about the leak going uncontrolled is the oil is not going to the refinery. (Thoughts of folks in the oil industry, not mine.)

Of course "peak oil" is used to set prices. ;)

Some good info and pictures of the WACHS segmented diamond wire saw they are using to cut the riser on the top of the BOP. And some pictures but not much info about the diamond circular saws used in cutting the smaller lines

Wow what an awesome site!
That's finally unblocked for me.
A gold mine of information there not useless drivel filled with polluted tannin reeking of political overtone. (wow that sounds familiar!)

:D
