Equation Editor in Microsoft Word is driving me crazy!

I'm trying to score points with my math teacher by doing my homework in the equation editor in Microsoft Word. The thing is driving me crazy though! First of all it refuses to let me use the spacebar while I'm editing the equation, second of all it won't let me place equation boxes parallel to one another so everything is vertical on the page and third of all it keeps doing this weird crap that's hard to explain that totally screws up the equation boxes. Anyone have any solutions to this, is there a third party equation editor I could try perhaps?

To use the space bar in an equation, you have to set the "style" as text. One easy way to put equations side by side is to just change the layout property of the equation object to be square. You'll then be able to place 2 separate equation objects side-by-side.

There is also a windows registry chnage you can make to the equation editor open in a separate window. I find this much better.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Equation Editor\3.0\Options\General\Force Open = 1

I don't know of any free alternatives out there.

mine automatically opens in a new window. most likely because i open it independtly of word. and as for teh things that happen to teh boxes right click on then amd change the text wrapping properties and things laike that. this way you can move them where you want them and they will stay there

I recommend looking into LaTeX with the AMSmath package (American Math Society)

That's what the real mathematitians seem to be using. But then again, the danger is, you will never go back to Word. Oh no. (edit spelling)
