People still play EQ1 and they release updates for it.

Granted EQ1 was great until the first expansion.

I still miss running sand giants and specters in the one desert / beach zone killing people, that game at least had many ways to kill others unlike WoW. :(

I still play EQ1 to this day, because they keep releasing content for it and it continues to be fun to play.

EQ2 is an abomination. And I really won't get into my detailed opinions on WoW, AoC, or WHO - though needless to say they all suck for various reasons and only have a lifespan of 1-2 years at best. EQ1 always manages to find some way of sucking me back in.

Its funny because you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. :p

This is just one of the updates coming with TSO, its just a highly visible one, and one that I really look forward to.

I think they went in a good direction with the update... they are flooding us with instances while they hold a carrot with a stick (the shards) to make folks do them over and over!

You're right. It's not like I played either WoW or EQ2 or anything like that...

I did play both too, you know. :p

If all you can post in an EQ2 thread is anti-EQ2 BS, then don't post at all. I don't post in WoW threads.

Hey, I never said EQ2 was bad. In fact I liked EQ2 a good bit more than WoW as there was a hell of a lot more depth and things to keep a player occupied and entertained in EQ2. All I'm saying is that the map updates make it look a lot like the WoW map system. They look good, but scream "Me too!".

The UI and Map updates in the expansion are really nice, and I'm suprised that it took them that long to do it. There's nothing wrong with doing something that makes your game better and enhance the experience for your users.

It simply blew my mind how useless the map system was and that people didn't complain more. The user interface is one of the main things that keep their subscriptions down in my opinion.

EQ2 was nice except for the lack of a decent player economy. When they finally destroyed crafting I gave it up completely

Err, did you just say WoW only has a 1-2 year lifespan at best...?

I did. Because it does. Thats about the point when the mindless repitition loses it's unique feeling and you realize it's the same thing with a different item skin and marginally better stats that in turn is ultimately trivialized completely by increased difficulty which realistically puts you in the exact same spot as before.

Nothing really changes in WoW. I was a MT for one of the top 3 ranked US PvE guild and constantly 2300+ in all 3 arena teams and I still cannot justify any single second I spent playing WoW as time that made me actually feel like I was enjoying myself minus the very initial post-launch level grind where everything was new and exciting. After that I simply lost all feelings of immersion and after a year and a half of hoping things would turn around I simply shrugged and moved on.

Now I spend a few hours playing Eve and then just enjoy EQ1 as they continue to actually innovate while maintaining the single most important aspect of ANY game to me; the challenge. To me, the challenge is everything. If a game is easy, I lose interest. If any accomplishment I fight to accomplish will simply be ultimately nerfed to the point of such ridiculous trivialization that anyone can accomplish it then I feel like I wasted my time. WoW is the king of catering to the lowest common denominator and making sure that everyone, from your grandmother to the 8 year old kid next door get to experience the same shit as you and get the same items as you.

Three words for you: That shits bananas.

In EQ, content from FIVE expansions ago is still good. Most players STILL cannot do it without decent numbers, and the items are still legitimately good items. This to me gives extreme playability due to the fact that EQ refuses to cater to the casual fucking babies who aren't skilled enough to accomplish something or are too fucking antisocial to make friends to help them. All WoW does is cater to idiots by hand-feeding them things after they've been played out by the hardcore, which only serves to fuck the skilled players out of their accomplishments and keep the casual drooling zombies playing.

I mean, I'm sorry you're a mindless retarded WoW fanboy and all that, but someday you'll see the light. I've already forgotten more about that game than you will probably ever know.

You realize WoW has been around for a lot longer then 5 years already?

I was a long time EQ player. WoW was just as fun as EQ and got just as old as EQ did. I don't see anyone quiting WoW in mass for a long time. It will live as long as blizzard keeps the servers on. Just like Diablo 2

Reading comprehension for the win, I think.

Lifespan of 1-2 years does NOT mean the game's lifespan, but the lifespan of the enjoyment. IE the time it takes for you to realize the game is shit.

This statement couldn't be more true, I have played EQ and EQ2 since they released and played WoW for a few months, if your level one killing a rat or level 60 killing dire warg it's all the same thing over and over.. The main draw for me in these type games is the social aspect, especially if you are in a decent guild it can be really fun to raid and do quests etc..

Damn, dude. What's up with the personal attacks? It's one thing to have a discussion but you pretty much crossed the line there.

Yet you badmouth it every chance you get. I threadcrap WoW threads too, at least I'm honest. And anything by Sony/SOE makes WoW look good. As retarded as dueling for epics may be.
