I use to play this game a long time ago. I enjoyed it then because of the team work it took some time in dungeons and raids.
My question is it worth to try playing being that is free to play as a Cleric, Wizard or necromancer.

At this time I don't have a lot of time to play. This may change in the next few months, job I was looking to get got pushed back a few months. I was just told I had a interview with them anyway so I may be in the start up phase of a new plant.

I wont be having to work a 12 hr shift anymore or get stuck working 10 to 20 12 hr day or night shifts in a row like I seem to get stuck doing all the time at present.

I'd give it a go and see what it's like. I played for years, and should still have access to my previous characters (apparently, haven't actually tried).

I don't think you're going to find the community play now, since the game is so old. Pretty much the only people still playing are those that can't let the glory days die. Unless you'll be playing with a friend that you know you can count on to be with you, I wouldn't bother with it.

As with many games, EQ1 days are just long gone now. :(

Regarding EQ2: it was a pretty awesome game when it released, and would be fun to try it out if you haven't. I always thought it had great potential and wondered how it would've done had WoW not stolen it's spotlight (released around the same time).

Cleric, wizard, warrior, and rogue are the only free to play classes unless you subscribe or pay station cash to unlock the others.

And as far as finding a group with one of the free to play classes, it would be difficult, because they are the same classes you can get mercs for. In general it's pretty hard to find a group under lvl 65. You can find groups but its rare. It's not like the olden days thats for sure. The higher you get, the easier it is to find groups.

Now on the flip side, it's easier to level at the lower levels. Takes about 8 hours of play to get to lvl 50 these days.

As an Old EQ'er I was sucked back in when STEAM had an everythng pack for $1.99 ya 2 bucks.. I played it for the free month.. the Steam offer had tons of new players, but EQ is simply not as easy to play as many of the "new" games and i noticed alot of questions in chat that nobody answered... I enjoyed it for a few days but EQ's flaws (features in the old days :) ) show rather quickly. Again I loved the game in its hayday.. i was addicted ( yes i say addicted) for 7 years.. but while they have upgraded and changed much, its just not up to the challange anymore.

If you want to relive the old days, not going to happen. Hitting any of the major traffic spots its a ghost town compared to even the end of its glory days. As i hit the old zones many, many had ZERO people..In the end it appeard as stated above, onlyh the old school are still int eh game.. high level stuf had people.. but even if it takes 8 hours (sorry i must suck i played about 40 some hours and was level 20) to get to 50... you will be doing it alone. Probely do 50-60 alone too..

the good news is there are so many great F2P MMORPG out there now with full comunities, and some even have pretty good player bases. Even bigger upside is it will be NEW to you (if you where an OLD eq'er). Not to steer you away from EQ.. it was the most fun i ever had in a MMORPG when it was new.. you cant relive those old days (even in a new game) no matter how hard you try.. At least I cant.. But i ahve had a great deal of fun trying new ones..

Runes of Magic- very wow like
Lineage II- now F2P well.. the grind is like old EQ at least :)
Alods- impresive graphics, WoW like but one of the better ones
AD&D- great game, even better with steady friends to play with
LOTRonline- may just be the best F2P out there..
Vindictus- if Final Fight (arcade game) was a MMORPG.. lots of action, littel RPG but fun.

Star Wars is going F2p i hear (or has) I would recomend taking a look , it was fun, if a bit stale after the new paint shine dulled..

Star Trek Online is quite good, (if your a fan) but really results to just two play styles.. ship combat and Away missions.. some see it as very dull, but f2p, why not take alook

Guild Wars II- pay for box, but free after.. is currenlty holdingmy interest.. wont say its new, but they have desguised the same old features better then most so it seems pretty new for awhile.. and its got somthing that makes you play just one more hour. Again nothing new, but not to bad..

tons more..
Perfect World (grindfest, but pretty)
Forgotten World- same people but a copy of WoW (notice a trend here, how so many copy it).. i enjoyed this one a bit too

Terra- not F2P yet.. but my guess is it will be soon.

the list goes on.. many more.. I guess my point is, why rehash an old game when you can try so many new free ones?

Yes it is a old game and the reason I asked about it is because I have tried many others MMO's after I quit EQ1.

I have yet to find a game I that I enjoyed as much as EQ1 when I played it.

You felt like you really accomplished some thing when you hit lv 60 back then. Most other MMO's I don't get that kind of feeling.

Sure if you died you lost experience and it use to be hard to get your items back at one time. This did a few things. one you made sure you new you class and what others were capable of doing. You tried to find others you have grouped with before and worked good together. If you wiped or died I just shrugged it off unless it was something that happened over and over do to some one not paying attention all the time or just didn't care. It is just a game so no reason to get to upset.

The problem I have is I have no friends that play online games not even my wife. Like I said above I work horrid hours and that use to turn off good guilds and made it difficult to lv up with some one you like to group with in the game.

I always wonder about this, were we all up for the steep EQ1 challange because it was new and different? Is it a you need to play it at least once. Everyone here quit EQ1 for a reason, I know I simply could not group with my friends who had more free time to play than I did. I'd love another challanging mmo to arrive but I sometimes wonder if I'd find it too irritating to enjoy it?
