Epson printer head cleaning?

Has anyone taken out the actual Epson printer head unit and cleaned it out? Mine seems to be really gummed up with ink, no amount of cleaning will help it(from the Epson Utilities panel). I have tried new cartridges, but to no avail. It is an Epson 800. Any help would be much appreciated.

It's not worth it, you get it clean and a head will just gum/air bubble lock the next day. swaping the ink carts only makes it worse (air gets in the head)

Yes, a that could fix the clogged heads on Epson printers. Try to us a lint free swap, or cloth, and use rubbing alcohol. Hopefully it will loosen up the dried ink that may be there. Take out the catridge, and dowse and clean around the input, it will take awhile. I have done this, and it unclogged one printhead after about 30 minutes or more of work and cleaning cycles.

If you have air cleaner spray, also try shooting some under the inhead. There could be something clogged there also.

Pure acetone will work wonders cleaning out print heads. Otherwise, use fingernail polish remover, which is a diluted solution of acetone. Saturate a cotton swab and gently rub the print head, repeat until you've removed most all of the stray ink and the cotton swab remains clean.

Best regards,
Floyd

See, this is why some people have problems with Epsons. Unlike with HP (where you get a replacement with the ink cartridge), with Epson you need to run their print head cleaning utility regularly. It's not really a problem, the cleaning utility works great and I've had zero problems with Epsons, but only as long as you do this on a regular basis. But when you don't run this cleaning utility regularly, inevitably you will end up with the "clogs". Waiting until there is a problem, then running the utility, does not work out.

So if you get it cleaned up using the suggestions above, make sure to run the cleaning utility regularly, especially if you are doing a lot of high resolution color printing such as photos.
