Epson perfection 1200U working with Vista64!!

I looked on the Epson site and they didn't list a Vista driver for the perfection 1200U scanner. I had a duel boot config but didn't like to go to XP just to scan a document. I did not want to replace a perfectly fine scanner. I found a fix to the problem in Vista32 (I think it works as I didn't try it) using the instructions found here. However, that didn't work for my Vista64 build. There was a link in that forum to another forum where someone got his perfection 2450 to work using a modified INF file from the 4990 driver. Link To get the 1200U to work I used the line:
%ES4F.DeviceDesc% = USB.ES4FXP.x64,USB\VID_04B8&PID_0104
instead of the line described in the PlanetAMD64 link (I found my device ID from the error message when trying to install the 1200U using the 1200U xp driver). I can't use Epson Twain in Photoshop but when I select the 4990 everything now works fine.

Hi,

Is there something special about your 1200U? From what I can find, it is a very old scanner. I have a Perfection 1250, yet the same attempt to make it work fails. I changed my PID to be 0802 which is the same as in the 32-bit drivers I have working under XP. It installs fine, and Vista64 now tells me the 4990 is correctly installed (it is really a 1250). However, neither the Epson scanning software nor the Vista64 "Windows Fax and Scan" will work. The Epson software comes back with "EPSON scan cannot be started" whereas the Windows Scan program actually looks like it might just work as it starts with "Establishing connection with Epson 4990" but then eventually it comes back with an error message saying it was unable to establish the connection ("could not complete scan").

Does your scanner actually work? And what scanning software do you use under Vista64?

Thanks,
BM.

Try this program, VueScan.

Couldn't find a Vista 64 driver for my 8 yr. old HP ScanJet 6100C (SCSI), till I found this program. Scanning software works better than the original I had.

suported scanners.
