I'm in the market for a photo printer and came across this at Office Depot. It's on clearance in Sunnyvale, California, so I'm not sure how your local store is selling it for. The salesperson said it was on clearance for $53... he didn't mention rebates or anything. Great budget photo printer, but I think I'm going to invest in the Canon S800. I want to get some more information about these two printers from all of you if possible... which inks work, which papers work... specifics ;)

I paid $80 for an Epson 820 (excellent printer) at Staples B&M after $20 off $100 printable coupon.

Oh well *shrugs*

Mind hooking me up with these "flag celebration" coupons? I think I might invest in a printer today...

100pack of photo paper at Costco for $20 and a printer for $35... what a deal

This is probably the "old" no silver model. OD was clearing them out for $69 about a month ago. That's when I picked mine up. You've lucked out and found one that hasn't been sold. It's a great printer buy the way. Use Epson paper and inks and it looks phenominal.

Ok, well the Anandtech effect took place at my local Office Depot today after work... some guy was there buying the only boxed printer before I could even pick one up for myself... remind me not to post until AFTER I've taken advantage of the deal heh.

To whoever it was, I forgive you, you just owe me a beer ;) I ended up taking the display model and weaseling the price down an additional $10... making it $44 including tax. Plus because it was a display model, they put full cartridges in when they open it, meaning I got more ink than I would have gotten if I would have gotten it boxed...

I love this printer,
it makes HQ photo if you use the Epson ink and photo paper
the ink is cheeper then HP and other photo printers ink , Staples sells the black ink for $24.99 and the color for $19.99
Staples will have Epson photo paper buy 1 get 1 free from time to time,
also Epson paper cost less then Koadak (this printer no like it any way)
I have my Epson on 24/7 and the ink is ok even if I don't print any thing for weeks
the ink lasts a long time when not doing photos
its also has good speed doing text (I don't have the specs)

I like to build system and I have been using the Epson 820 with my high end systems

FOR $53.00 I'LL BUY A BUNCH
;)

EPSON INK

Epson Matte paper is the best

Well Costco has 100 sheets of Epson Photo Paper for $19.99... and Fry's has 20 packs of Epson Photo Paper for $2.99

I think I'm going to get generic inks; something tells me I'll be using this printer a hell of a lot! I just printed out my first image borderless (1600x1200 shrunk to 8.5x11) and I must say, it rivals the print quality of my dad's printshop Xerox Color Copier! Wow... I'd love to see the Canon S800/S900 in action as well... but for the price, this printer destroys anything the Canon could offer me.

I'll have to check out the Office Depot in Campbell, CA (I'm in Willow Glen). I've been using my trusty Epson Photo 750 for years and it still amazes me how well photos print out. Luckily Epson made drivers for OS X for my printer. I've been using generic inks. They're as low as $3.25 now or 10/$30 for color. I get them at Simply Bargains. Ink for the 820 is $7.75 or 10/$75 for black OR color. Here's the link for color.

That's a great price for the 20 sheets of Epson photo paper. Last time I bought a pack at Fry's they were $4.99 with a $5.00 rebate. That was probably last fall. It's nice to see they've dropped the price though.

Just one more vote of confidence for this printer... If you use high-quality paper, you will be absolutely astounded by the results. I was skeptical, since the last "photo printer" I had invested in (about two years ago) churned out crap that didn't look anything like a photo. Pair this thing with a good digital camera, though, and you can make absolutely beautiful prints.

(You have to wait though... a looooong time. But the quality is WELL worth it.)

Hmmmm... I just paid $9.99 for a box (20 sheets) of Epson "Glossy Photo Paper" (S041141) at Austin's Fry's. :disgust:

i personally don't like the espson HW matte and glossy at costco. The matte is too thin, just feels like index card paper. the glossy doesn't have a smooth finish IMO. i have a canon s820 (i wanted speed and individual tanks.. plus i got a good deal on it). Altho it really likes canon paper, the paper just isn't bright white for what i like to print (i like to print w/ some borders).

Anyway, my point in this is while at office depot, try some of the office depot premium high gloss photo paper, $30 for 100 on sale this week, 10.25mil, bright white, and very good results.

The Epson Photo Paper I was referring to is the 4"x6" paper (S041134). Everyone who has seen prints from me on this paper can't believe it's from a printer. The paper even feels like a real photo.

I'll have to check the price at Fry's as the online price is $5.99. :Q

Canon printers hate Epson papers... Epson is better with generic papers and inks than Canon which was the main concern I had... The Photo Paper at Costco/Fry's feels like real photo paper and the results are simply astonishing... There's no need for me to try the OD Premium Gloss because it's more expensive and it's not Epson...

Jump on this deal quickly guys - I've had a couple of people ask me why their store doesn't have any or has it for a higher price.

Thanks slayman for the assistance. I was able to into the store tonight here in Springfield, IL and buy one for, now get this, just over $40. They had it for $62.99 and they were kind enough to PM their own store in Sunnyvale at $52.99 - even without a telephonce call, scan or receipt. Then, they even allowed me to use my coupon they had sent me from on-line for $15 off a $50 order.

Now that's a great deal and nice manager!

They have even started a new deal where you get a free ream of their paper - so that was additional savings of $4 or $9!

Once again, perseverance, courtesy from fellow AT members, and a little smoothness with all the clerks pays off. This is going to go so well with my $99 Kodak 3600 digital from Staples that also came with a Free 8MG CF card.

Now if I could just find a good deal on that freakin $80 Kodak base charger to charge my Lithium battery pack on the camera.......

Thanks to you all!

i wouldn't say canon printers hate epson papers. many ppl use it w/o a problem. It works well, but i just don't like the gloss, the OD paper is closer to the photo feel i like. just mentioning it to ppl who might find it useful to pick up.

Thank!

Linh, nice to see someone from DPR here! The Canon printers take Epson paper very well, including the HW Matte, Premium Luster, and ColorLife. Kodak and HP paper generally suck on most inkjet printers though. I second the opinion on Office Depot Premium Glossy, as it's on par with Epson Premium Glossy and Canon Photo Paper Pro, but at a much lower cost.
