rickn or anyone else, just bought my sister the Epson 820 today for $80 after $20 off $100 coupon from Staples B&M.

Does the Epson 820 suffer from clogged print heads and dried ink if you leave the printer on for long periods of time or don't use it? That's what I heard about the Epson C40 which is a lower end printer but the same manufacturer.

does this mean i need to either turn off my 785epx or print something each week? i guess i can print something... not hard...

I'm not sure if that applies to your specific printer but I would as a precaution make sure you print a few pages (even just plain b&w text) every 2 weeks and always turn your printer off when it's not in use.

I wouldnt leave them on. some people do it to save ink, but i turn mine off when not in use because these printers will still initialize a head cleaning after a certain time period whether they left on or not. Epson printheads do tend to clog more if left unused for extended periods. I've not had a clog on my 785EPX for awhile now. It isn't a really big problem. All you really need to do is just print out a nozzle test every few days and check, and also do a nozzle test before you print any pictures. For the price these printers cost and a 1yr exchange warranty, I think some ppl expect to much.
