EpoX8KHA+ and AMD1600+ and a 300W PS?

Hi there!

I'd like to get some advice, have seen a great offer here where I live (in Sweden) that is a combo:
EpoX 8KHA+
AMD XP 1600+
Taisol CGK760092
256 MB DDR RAM
and a 40GB IBM Deskstar (7200)

The thing is that I only have a case with a 300W power supply, do you think that can be enough or do I have to get a new case and PS (340W) aswell? The brand of the PS is MACRON POWER - probably not one of the best, but it was in the days when I didn't know better...
The thing is that I'd like to know if it is any idea to put the pieces together and try or if I have to buy a case immediately...

BTW and off-topic in this forum, why does the resellers say "AMD OK" for the case+PS? Is there some case+PS that really does NOT work with AMD? What is it that makes the case+PS not work with AMD?

Regards

All that means if it's not "AMD OK" persay, it means that AMD hasn't tested the PSU with their chips, so there's no guarantees it will work.
Here's a list of the AMD Recommend Power Supplies,
AMD: Athlon XP Recommend Power Supplies

At a quick glance, Macron Power is there, but only the 400W are listed. Anyways, I learned the hard way not to skimp out on a good quality PSU, had my other one blow on me (no name 300W) luckily nothing was damaged, but since then I use Antec PSUs, using the Antec PP412X (400W) with my Athlon XP 1600+

300W should be fine.

No. All PSU works w/ AMD. It just take AMD CPU tend to need more power than Intel CPU.

I dont know bout 300 w might be ok might not, I tried my setup same thing as what you are getting with a Enhanced 300 PS and system ran but I got random reboots all the time at default clock speeds, changed PS to a 340 Enlight and reboots went away.

Well. It depends on how many other components in ur box. steimm just got some very basic setup...300W should be no probs.

Thx 4 the replies!!

BTW I have some other components aswell that i didn't mention:
Leadtek Geforce3 Ti200
Mediaforte Theatre X-treme 5.1 Soundcard
Realtek 10/100Mbps network card
Floppy (who doesn't?)
CD-ROM (old bastard 24X)
Two case fans

Do ya think it is too much of those things if I'd buy a EpoX mobo and a AMD XP 1600+ with my 300W PSU?

I don't know - with that Geforce 3, especially, you should probably get the 340 Watt PS just to be on the safe side.

If the mobo and parts are a good deal, get them. Put it together, and monitor the voltages. I am not familiar with the mobo and BIOS, but there may be a pc health utility in the BIOS. If the voltages are stable, and within 3%-4% of norm, keep the p.s. If not, trash the P.S. It is worthless if it won't maintain a stable voltage. Please note that some name brand P.S.'s will not maintain stable voltages, and all need to be checked periodically. 🙂
