Nothing cautionary. It is the latest and what I have been running for over a year now atleast. The Magic Bios is a program you install and run it in Windows. It's a small window, load it up, and hit the C to check for a new bios version. If it finds one you hit the button below the C and get it. Very Barney.

do you load the dual core optimizer for your x2 or does vista 64 have that in it? I know thaT vista has the cool n quiet functionality built in so those drivers are not needed. but the timing issue for the 2 cores is different and the optimizer is supposed to fix that.

Is the dual core optimizer compatible with Vista 64? Consensus of opinion over on the Planet64AMD forum and by others is that the AMD dual core optimizer is not needed for Vista 64.
I'm using a dual boot OS, XP Pro 32 and Vista 64, with my Opty 170 on this board. I did not load the optimizer on Vista 64. So far no problems with older games or programs.

No need for dual core optimizer(its only for XP),Vista already has full dual core support.

Still running this board well after 2 years but looking to upgrade my old 6600gt video card to a new HD3850 one. The card specs say it's 9 inches long, has anyone put one in this board and if so did it run into the IDE cable that's mounted at the end of the board? I took a quick measurement today and it looks like it will be pretty tight.

I run an 8800gt on this, also ran a gtx for a while but that was too big. The 8800 works fine.

both the 7800 gtx and the 8800 gts 512 mb are too long-they cover one of the 2 ide slots. and dont try to 'make it fit' i shorted out an ide cable that way from the sharp edges of the pcb of the video card.

Man I'm confused - bozcak says runs an 8800gt on this board and I googled and that one is 9" long. bwanaaa says the 8800gts and 7800gtx are too long and they also show as 9" long. Anyone know for sure what the max length is w/out running into the IDE cable?

you can still use one of the ide slots-just one gets nuked by the long card. as i recall, the first generation 8800gts is shorter -only 9 in but the gtx and ultra are 10.5 in and therefore too long.

Thanks bwanaaa.. I can't give up one of my IDE slots since I have 4 IDE devices so I think I will wait on the HD3850 until I get a new board in a few months. I can't believe I will actually be putting together my first ever Intel build with an E8400 after AMD has been so good to me over the years!

ingeborgdot, I'm running ultimate 32-bit & everything pretty much installed by itself through windows update. I installed long ago, but don't remember having to download anything for the board. Much improved over XP.

who still has one of these things running? Show some love. I just popped the top off mine and all the caps are nice and flat. The thing has been basically on for 4 years.

Mine still chugging along with an A64 3000 and a monster gig of ram :)

Got to say I am VERY tempted to finally upgrade with the MicroCenter deals, especially the Phenom II X2 555 BE & Asus M4A87TD/USB3 AM3 870 for only $164, with another $95 for 4 gigs of DDR3 it is tough not too!

I know, I know this is an old thread but where did you get the drivers and such for this board? I have it on an older computer that I would like to keep running but what will I need to do to get the drivers for it? Will 7 just have the best ones?

Win7 pretty much has drivers for it,since it uses standard stuff like Realtek,NF4 chipset drivers etc...

Nvidia website has drivers for older OS like Vista/XP etc under legacy support section.

Btw I retired my Epox PC to backup PC last week since now on new built PC ie Asus P8Z68 V/Gen3,2500K CPU .

wow they don't even have nforce4 drivers for win7 on the nvidia site. i would assume win7 would have them built-in then but i dont know about the features or performance of them.

Drivers -> Legacy -> nForce 4 Series -> nForce 4 Ultra AMD -> Windows Vista 64-bit

http://www.geforce.com/Drivers/Results/6635

The Vista 64-bit drivers should work on Windows 7 but should already be present for most of the hardware I would imagine.

I'm still running this board... almost 8 years now. Optron 170 cpu, and I just upgraded to 4GB ram, an OCZ Aglity 2 SSD 120GB, and Win 7 x64. Thinking of slapping on a H60 watercooling kit... but it is pretty quiet already.

Only issue is some of the caps have bulged. A little worried about that... but this board has outlived the original Antec 450W PSU that came with the Sonata Case. A little 4870 GPU (w/ DDR3 ram) and it is still my main gaming rig. Cheer! :)
