A few websites are now showing this MB in stock. Bunta.com has it for $102 plus shipping. This card could very well be the real bargain for OCing Durons.

besides $30 (which is a lot), why would I get this instead of the regular KT7? I can't find any online reviews of the EP-8KTA+.

TIA.

Both AMDZone.com and Athlonmb.com reviewed this board with really good results. One of them even went so far as to say it ranks right up there with the Abit and ASUS. It does have multiplier switches for OCing!!

maybe this is why?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AMD announces to reach the 1,5GHz in January 2001 for its processor Athlon Thunderbird with the appearance of given rhythm intermediate versions with 1,2 and 1,3 GHz. However, everyone knows that the last generations of processors AMD heat enormously, this due to an increasingly significant electric consumption. With a consumption of 46 A for the version 1,5GHz against 37A for current the 1,1GHz, the systems with 4 transistors (two-phase) traditional prove to be insufficient and are thus likely to make the configurations unstable. A system three-phase (6 transistors) proves to be obligatory to support such a rise of electric need and to maintain the temperature of the transistors under the fateful 89° Centigrade what proves to be impossible to make for a system 4 transistors which would be likely to roast. Currently, only ABIT proposes a reliable solution three-phase on its mother boards Socket A (KT7 and KT7-RAID), ASUS has an equivalent system but not very convincing and that of TYAN was never tested. ABIT thus chose the good solution of input of play and if you bought a KT7 or KT7-RAID, you can consider the after 1,1GHz with serenity without having to change mother board.

BrotherMan got his point!

However, if you just want to play w/ Duron (600 starting around $45 OEM w/out Fan) and reach that "magic" 1Ghz before the new PRO266 debut.
I'd think EpoX is a good buy.

I have an Epox board now and befor that I had an Abit.
I am very happy with Epox boards and like them better than Abit.
But then I never got around to over clocking yet on either.

For a review on this board and to see how it rank's with the KT7 and the KA7, go here to athlonmb.com They rank it a 8.5 out of a possible 10. Has dip switches, 6 pci/1 agp/1 isa, 3>168 pin pc100/pc133 SDRAM slot's. KT-133 chipset.

They have it ranked right up there with the Asus and Abit K7 socket A boards. It does look like a descent board, especially for the money. And after reading the reviews on it, I think I'm going to pick one up. Hard to beat the performance with the value you get from this board, especially if you don't have or want to shell out the buck's for an Abit or Asus.

Definitely, this is a really bargin.

$100(mb) + $50(cpu), I possible get 900MHZ Duron System.

I like it, it has all features that I need.

KT7 is more expensive and doesn't have on-board Audio(I think
it's good enough for me, I am not crazy about 3D sound).

A7V doesn't have ISA slot, which I really need, because I have
an old PCI SCSI2 card and a couple of SCSI harddisks.

I just placed an order to buy. The nice thing is that I will
be able to upgrade to 1.2GZ Tbird in the future(probably, after
2 years 1.2GZ Tbird only cost less than $100).
