Epox and USB - issue resolved?

Specifically the 8KHA because that's a steal for the price. No 686B, decent performance and overclocking, and onboard RAID (not that I will ever use it).

Oh yeah, about that overclocking... I heard that some of these boards won't do over 145mhz. or so FSB without losing USB - this has to be a joke!

Someone please fill me in. I should know this and HAVE been searching old posts for info but I just can't seem to find anything and have only recently started considering Epox because of Asus' ridiculously slow time-to-US-market with A7V266. I use a USB mouse and would appreciate not having to toss it since I DO plan to O/C.

OK, two minutes after posting I of course find the answer :p

Seems like 138mhz. is the limit for the KT266 chipset and the on-chip USB. Fudge.

So can anyone then tell me why the review sites don't mention this in the reviews of boards like A7V266? This DDR thing is giving me a headache... at least the boards are stable though... I guess... yeah.

Well there is a work around, if you use a PCI USB Card, then you still will have USB, while the fsb is over 138MHz. Belive me that is a huge loss for KT266, but VIA will fix it eventually hopefully.

P.S. 8KHA does not have On-board RAID, nor is there an option for On-board RAID.

thanks for info on the RAID and helping put a stop to my little spread of misinfo - noticed this on their site too... probably why so cheap. Oh well, like I said I won't use it. This must also mean then that A7V266 is affected. darn.

At this point I might as well toss a coin into the air since I don't care about the A7V's 134 mhz default FSB or "Pro" AGP 4x or even the onboard sound, which probably isn't as quality for recording samples as my Montego 2.

Perhaps I should go with the 8K7A then for overclocking? This decision really is bigger than I would like it to be and I don't want to wait until nforce anymore since I don't have a computer at all at the moment and waiting to play Max Payne and other assorted things I miss. I'll read up about 8K7A and anyone can try and sell me on it if they really want to, "hehe"

one other thing though is that I have a 45 gig 75GXP HD which could have some problems not-failing with the 686B southbridge of 8K7A.
