So reading all the review I guess wasn't enuf.... *sigh*

EDIT: I should say that I have power... cd-roms, FDD, fans all power up... just no picture.... tried 3 vid cards so far... nothing...
(And the one stick of ram is in the "dimm 1" slot)

I have built this:

EPoX 8RDA+ rev. 1.1
AMD AthlonXP 2100+ Tbred "B"
Kingston 512MB PC2700 x 1 (ValueRam)
Volcano 7

I can't even get to the bios screen.....

Any ideas ?

Everything seated properly? If so, try another board, if available. If other board boots up fine, the Epox may be DOA. Either way, good luck

Check my thread Mark, I posted some suggestions (none of them is probably it) for you to check on. Good luck.

- Make sure there's no metal-to-metal contact between the bottom of the motherboard and the metal of the case.

- Double-check for proper heatsink installation.

What power supply are you using?

I would also try running the board outside of the case with only video card, ram, cpu & hs attached.

I had the problem where there would be no display when I boot up. It was like the monitor was in standby mode.
The code on the mobo read FF, which meant all was ready to go... but nothing would get the display to show up.

After taking the mobo up and trying, I got it to work again.. go figure

The Volcano7 comes disassembled, so you could've put the clip into the heatsink backwards, or you might have put the clip into the heatsink correctly but then installed the whole thing backwards. The pressure point of the clip must be over the CPU core, and the end of the heatsink's base that has a step cut into it must be at the top end of the CPU socket to provide clearance over the solid-plastic end of the CPU socket. HTH :)

I have some Crucial 2100 I could try and start it with....

I just swapped out the power supply with a 451w Enermax from my main system..... nothing.
So it's not the PSU

You could be right about the ram though.... I've heard this MB is finicky until you flash it.... but I can't get that far yet. :(

Thx for the tip.... I will try the Crucial.

Well, its not the ram....

I swapped outthe ram, CPU, PSU, and many video cards now.. nothing... just amber on the monitor...and it's plugged in and screwed.

RMA time I guess... I hope Newegg will let me have the Asus or something....

Yes... I have power, or I wouldn't see the "FF"... but all the fans start up, and the drives light up... just no display.
I tried some stuff from the local PC store... they let me take it in and pop-in thier ram... I would have bought it, but it didn't get me anywhere.
We tried one of thier CPUs too...
and yes, I have reset the cmos 4 times now, but I've never seen it yet. :(

The CPU jumper is in the default position... I wonder if I need to change it also... Hmmm..

NOTE: Epox support is fast and I am exchanging emails with him now.... cudos for support at least !!!

For the AMD 2100+, isn't default the place for it ?

its not really clear... it says 100/133 NC
133/166 1-2 (default)

So if I want 133... which one is it ?

GREAT!:)
AA7 is just the label on the bad chip you had, they have the same bios even if it has B label.
let me know how things are going and when you are ready to flash bios, dont use the alt&2 method or winflash.

What method do you use to flash the bios?

Yeah, I was posting this so that others could be aware of a "potential" bad bios chip.
Turns out that I have a labeled AA7 chip... I never got to see the other bios boot up, so I have no idea what bios version it was flashed with.

But this one seems to have come with 3/5/2003 bios already.... cool.

But I usually flash via a floppy of HDD.

Thx again for the help. :)
