I have an Epox 8RDA+/Athlon XP 2100+ with 1Gb PC3200 400Mhz DDR. I am considering upgrading to an Athlon XP 3000+. With the latest BIOS, the 8RDA+ officially supports the 333Mhz version ofthe 3000+, but there are 400 Mhz OEM versions available. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience that the 400 Mhz version will work on the 8RDA+? My thinking is that it would be optimum for the FSB and the Memory bus to operating at the same frequency (200Mhz in this case). Or is there something wrong with my thinking?

Thanks in advance.

The best thing you can do right now is to get a mobile chip. Get either the 2400, 2500, or 2600. Newegg has the 2400 for $79. Many users are getting ridiculous speeds with them. I just started to overclock mine and look at my signature. I have a slk800. After 4 hours of prime 95 my cpu temp was 39C. As for your board it is luck of the draw. I had one 8RDA+ that would only do 180fsb stable. The one that my 7 year old is about go inherit from me does 215fsb stable. Yours might do 200fsb or it might now. BTW all of the Bartons made now are locked unless you get an older one. The mobile chips are unlocked which would be a better buy for you.

Look in the case, what version is it. It will say on the board in white letters what version.

This is a fantastic link to anyone with questions concerning the 8rda+. I have learned alot from this forum. I myself own a 8rda+ v.1 and I can have gotten 208 mhz x 11 (I am sure I could go higher but 11.5 x200 was my goal). So just because you have a version 1 doesn't neccesarly mean your stable at 180. Extreme Overclocking 8rda Q&A

gplracer is right, Anyone interested in overclocking would be nuts to not jump on the mobile bandwagon. There are simply the way to go for anyone considering an upgrade.

I've got an 8RDA (non + version) that I got in December 2002 and it's currently running a 2500+ at 2.01ghz (11x183 FSB). My board craps out at anything over 182 FSB because of the voltage to the Northbridge. With the early revisions of the 8RDA version, I've found some hit 200 FSB, while others don't.

I really like the board, and plan on using it for a while longer. However, I am considering getting a mobile chip and see how high I can push the multiplier and still leave the FSB at 182.

Hmm, if you want to run dual channel memory (and you should) the 8RDA+ doesn't like to run 200fsb without a vmod to give the northbridge more juice...and then you need better northbridge cooling and so on. I'd just keep what you have and save for a A64 system or at least a newer motherboard.
