I have a problem with my campus connection.. it seems that my on-board LAN is producing a different MAC address every time I try to connect, and thus the campus network server blocks me because it does not recognize the new MAC addresses.

According to the network jack status, there is a whole list of MAC addresses that my machine apparently generated.

The BIOS enables me to change the last 3 sets of numbers manually (00:04:61:xx:xx:xx). I tried changing the MAC address and re-registered on the campus server, but it still won't recognize my machine :(

I think my m/b LAN is toast. I am wondering if this has anything to do with the leaking capacitors..? Any suggestions before I RMA it?

Thanks..

Edit: Started working suddenly. But I still wanna know WTF just happened.

I would borrow a Router with DHCP On and try if the same thing occurs while the computer is only connected to a good Router and obtains IP. I.e may b it has to do with the interaction of your computer and the school Network.

Or and, get a free or $5 NIC disable the Mobo NIC and try the spare one.

Or and, remove the NIC installation from the OS System Properties, reboot disable the NIC in the Bios and let it reboot without an NIC (this process will clean out the Drivers). Reboot enable the NIC and install the drivers again.

The purpose of the above is to try to find the Culprit in the ?Strange? phenomenon.
