EPOX 8RDA Nforce for 99 bucks

HI ALL

Ive been looking for good deals for an MSI kt4 board when I came across this. TCWO has the new EPOX 8RDA nforce for 99 bucks shipped. Their located at www.tcwo.com If any of you guys come across good deals on the MSI KT4 let me know!!

The 8RDA sound is probably just fine if you are using a 2-piece or 3-piece speaker set. Soundstorm on the 8RDA+ would be the best option if you are using 4.1 or 5.1 speakers.

I saw this the other day and would really like to know how well the 8rda(non +)sound is. All I am using is a Logitech 340 system and if the sound is on par with a SB Live value, then this board is for me.

can someone point out the major differences between these two EPox boards.
I have to order one of them in the next 10 days.

I will use two NIC's , soundblaster live, radeon 9000,

what i really wish is for a nforc2 board to have USB2.0 onboard, raid controller...

I am setting up this identical board from TCWO today. Just to be sure, I ordered a SB Live 5.1 for $32 bucks to go along with the Z560's I purchased for $149.

Nice deals all around from a reliable company.

Did you order an SB Live 5.1 for $32 or did you order a 20pk of OEM SB Lives for $32 😉

The board is pretty good, check out the Motherboards section of the forums for a whole bunch of threads on it.

Balex99: I have the 8RDA (non +) and use the onboard sound with an Altec Lansing 2.1 setup. I previously used a TB Santa Cruz sound card, but I honestly can't tell a difference in the sound. I originally thought I would use the SC or a SB Live card, but I think I am just going to stay with the onboard sound.

I use a 1/8" splitter to separate my speakers and headphones and it works great.

Yeah, I was planning on putting together a 80.20 sound system (hard to beat 8000 watts of power) with the 20 SB Live OEM cards, but the darn EPOX 8RDA board only gave me 6 PCI slots. 😉

*sigh*

If you value sound quality at all, please don't get an Audigy. The sound quality really isn't very good. Get a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz instead.

The 8RDA+ soundstorm is supposed to be better quality than a tbsc or audigy when using the spdif out with a decent speaker setup, and it definately kills the sb live in every way. As far as the quality using analog outs (normal connectors) I'm not sure because there is some argumento over this, but it seems that it is on par with the tbsc and then some. It's definately worth the wait for someone to get the 8RDA+ back in stock, and definatley worth the money.

doesn't the quality of the sound depend on the DAC? audigy2 has a Crystal's CS4382 8-channel 24bit 192kHz DAC and Philips UDA1361 ADC, and 8RDA+ uses realtek ALC650 18-bit ADC and 20-bit DAC. 24bit vs. 20bit, quite a difference. I doubt the realtek is better. As for the SPDIF output, it's all digital. what difference does it make if it's using soundstorm or audigy DSP? it all depends on your external decoder.
if you want quality sound, get a real sound card than on the motherboard. motherboard designer doesn't care how the sound turns out. they don't even list the specs for sound system performance. my 3+ yrs old sblive has almost noiseless analog output, I don't think 8RDA+ can beat that.

I have an 8RDA+ and at first I was using my SB Audigy, but out of curiosity I tried the onboard sound. I am using some a set of creative four point surround speakers and I personally can tell absolutely no difference. So with that I pulled out the Audigy card and stayed with the onboard stuff. I think one of the main benefits is that when you load all the motherboard drivers (including sound) it took me a grand total of about 30 seconds where the Audigy by itself has the horrible setup that seems to take forever. I am not an expert by far when it comes to sound, but for gaming and listening to music I am completely satisfied.

wow that is a pretty good price 🙂

sterling: r u looking to the msi kt4 ultra? or just the plain jane kt4v?

Spanky

I'd prefer the Kt4 Ultra but i'd take the entry level for a good price. Its just for a office computer no gaming.

If this is just a non-gaming office computer, then you should consider looking at one of the nforce-1 motherboards with intregrated video, audio, and LAN. Search for nforce at pricewatch.com.
