you can go buy an add-on connector from EPOX or you can hotwire it by soldering an RCA connector to the digital audio pins on the mobo.

it does seem pretty retarded, tho, that they'd put all the hardware on the card and cheap out on the extra port.

Cool link. I think those instructions would work on many motherboards as long as the mobo manual gives the pinout.

For the original poster, the SPDIF connector is needed if you need 5.1 surround as a digital link to a receiver, but if you just want to use 5.1 analog multimedia speakers that use three stereo mini plugs, then you don't need to make that adaptor. Just look in the motherboard manual on how to connect the wires. Typically the regular green port (line out) is used for front two channels. The blue port (line in) is used for rear two channels. The red port (mic) is used for center and subwoofer. After connecting them up, need to go into the Nvidia utility to tell it to use 6 channel sound instead of out/in/mic.

If you plan on using the optical digital out spdif daughter card on a v2.0
8rda+ board...don't! Its doesn't work Known issue.

In the last year and a half I've installed and uninstalled
approximately eight different 8rda+ boards in two cases. If its not
bad capacitors or power up problems, its memory C1 or IDE controller
problems . This last episode with the spdif was the final straw. I'll
never touch an Epox board again!

And herein lies the problem. The spdif is standard issue with other
mainboard manufacturers like Abit or Asus. Again Epox falls short of
the mark. But I will leave it at that. My agenda is not to harass
Epox; but just to be read as a caution

I seem to have burned out the left channel when I use the onboard audio for stereo. I just got a cheap 4.1 sound card by MADDOG but do I need to change anything in the BIOS before I insert this audio card? I have 2 sets of stereo speakers I'd like to use. Will that work?

The last time I tried installing a SB16 card it just didn't work. I didn't change anything in the BIOS or any pins before I installed the SB16.
