I just got my 8KHA+ via Fed Ex. How do you tell what bios chip you have. I have a small chip on the lower right side of my board (almost next to the LED's) that has "U" printed on it and a "=" drawn on it. Is this the good chip?

I have been reading a few posts about the U= BIOS. I haven't heard any problems with it. I would think it's newer than the N+. If it works and doesn't crash, don't worry about it. :) I hope you enjoy your board as much as I have enjoyed mine!

That letter on the sticker doesn't signify which BIOS chip you have, rather which BIOS is installed in the chip. To update just download the latest BIOS from the EPOX website.

If you want to know what BIOS chip you have, it will be under the sticker. As I understand it, the Hyundai ones are giving the least (or no) problems.

I just ordered the Epox from newegg.. does anyone know what newegg has been shipping out lately? i assume they'd have the least chance of having an old glitchy board with the old BIOS simply because the high volume of sales. i am just gonna be pissed if i end up having to RMA my new board (i really wanna get this system put together soon).

Timmy,

I ordered mine wednesday from newegg and got it today. It has the "U=" sticker on it. I havent looked under the sticker to see what manufacturer the BIOS is from.

Thanks for the replys....Ill post here how well the BIOS works.

I havent installed the board yet but I did find one thing I dont like. My A7V has a connector for an ATA100 drive and two other HDDs this board only has one. I had my HDD on the ATA100, my CD on Primary Master and my CDRW on Secondary Master. This is not really a big deal, ill get over it.

Okay, so far so good with my 8KHA+. I installed the motherboard without doing a fresh install and all seems to be working good. It is a little slower launching IE 6.0 the first time but any other pages you access after that go fine.

There are two SCSI/RAID controllers listed in the Device Manager. I removed one but it kept finding it over and over. It shows both are working so I just left it. Anyone else have this?

Once again my board has "U=" on the bios chip. I haven't looked under the chip to see what version the chip is yet.

So far so good.

I will do a fresh install later this week when I have more time.

Maybe U means that BIOS version 11/02 ? Mine came with N+, and the BIOS version is 10/17.

Ok, let me reiterate, the letter on the chip means nothing about the quality of the chip, it's just the BIOS installed on the chip, you're going to flash it anyways, so it really loses significance. What matters is the actually make of the chip. Mose Hyundai chips, as stated before give little or no problem at all.
