I'm putting the titled system together this week, and am pretty new at this. I am initially more interested in stability than eeking out every last drop of performance. I have a number of options to set both on the motherboard jumpers as well as in the BIOS. The full specs of the system I'm putting in are in my sig.

I'm a little confused about the combinations of FSB, cpu clock, clock ratios, DRAM clock, DRAM timing. etc. I've done research here and on the web, and have enough to go on for experimentation, but have 2 questions:

- Can I eff things up badly enough that I cause permanent damage to anything?
- Does anyone have "the answer" (i.e. all settings and jumpers) that they know works, is stable, and is also getting good performance.

Many thanks

as with any DIY projects--there 's a good chance to screw-up the whole thing--but you 'll learn.
--first start default bios settings-dont change anything--untill you are sure everything is working allright...
--then you can start changing settings bit by bit--you can do a search on this forum on good bios settings for your mobo--it has been asked a lot of times. One thing to remember--not everyone will have the same settings and setup to get good stable/good performance--your mileage will vary.

if you want to look at a webpage of settings try looking at buckmaster's post ....down about 25 from this one ....he 's got screen shots of bios settings that do well ....dont worrie you cant do permanent damage to the system......

Thanks, I've done that. Now, he has a 1.4 TBird and I have a 1.9 XP, so I'd assume the CPU Clock and Ratio would be different??

yes it would.....that you will have to experiment with that to get the best results.......eirther a big fsb..with a smaller cpu ratio........or a smaller fsb and a bigger cpu ratio
the faster fsb will give the best increase in speed overall......

Your CPU is locked anyway, so leave the multiplier alone and fol only with the FSB if you must. Best bet is somewhere around 140-145fsb for you.

With a locked XP1900 I haven't heard of many going over 145 and from working on them about 143 is about it but with the speed of the board you don't mind running at 140
