Epox 8KHA - HELP!

My friend just bought an Epox 8KHA with a 1700+ AMD processor. We installed WinXP on it with 256 DDR Crucial Ram. He is also using a Geforce MX200 vid card.

We clean installed everything and his computer his wacked out. It reboots almost instantly once inside Windows... freezes up. Sometimes doesn't even boot. Is his new mobo bad?

Also, the code on the double digit display reads FF once it's gone through the boot process. Is this an ok code?

I'd appreciate any help since I'm the one who has to fix it.

Also, if it helps... he's using the latest VIA and Nvidia drivers. The bios we are using is the newest one also (8kha2108).

Yep that`s the code you get when it`s booting up fine and working ok .

He's using the psu that comes with the Chieftech Workstation case (Link). It has a 220 combined output on the 3.3 and 12.

Does he have an internal Zip drive installed? I had a similar problem where it would come up to the initial XP bootup screen then freeze. I removed the ZIP and it booted straight up.

Try booting up with a minimum system ,like just video card etc,I would also look at your temps in bios what are they reading?

I tried it with just 1 stick of ram and just the vid card and it still starts to freeze in windows and stuff. Temps are fine... 43c.

Hmmm was he getting problems before installing the VIA drivers since you don`t really need to install VIA drivers for XP since it has native support for VIA boards,I would also try the board out of case , also try clearing the CMOS and do another clean install of XP and see what happens.

Is ACPI enable and installed properly?
What hardware are ya running and in which slots?

Might wanna try disabling auto-reboot in WinXP, that way you can get a normal BSOD and see if it is a specific driver that is crashing the system. If you need to know where this is: Control Panel->System->Advanced->Startup and Recovery->Settings->Startup and Recovery

Make sure the +5 volts on the power supply is giving you at least 2 amps.

The cpu likes juice from there.
