When I started my box with an Epox 8KDA3J board I get the unplugged network cable error in XP, strange thing is there is "faint" light from the LED on the NIC which flashes every couple seconds when the error message flashes in XP, I have tried everything, new cable, different router, uninstalling the drivers then reinstalling, nothing works. The HW shows up OK in Windows, but just that I get no connection and get the error about cable unplugged, I stuck a Belkin NIC in and it works fine, so does this sound like a motherboard problem, or something else, this board is only a couple weeks old, and no troubles until now.

Go to Device Manager, find the NIC, and go to the Advanced tab. Set it to Autonegotiate for 100Mbit Full Duplex if it's set to something else. I set my K8N-E Deluxe to Autonegotiate for 1000Mbit FD, since it usually plugs straight into a 24-port gigaswitch, and when I plugged it into a 100Mbit switch for another purpose... hey wha, no link.

OK I tried that, it didn't work, I still get the cable unplugged error and a blinking light, more specifically the flashing goes bewtween the message: Acquiring network address and network cable unplugged.

If you open a command-line box and type ipconfig /all, what IP address does it have now, if any? You can do an ipconfig /release and then an ipconfig /renew and see where that gets you...

Also look through the other settings for the NIC. If it has jumbo frames enabled then that might throw the routers a curve.

I have heard about these Epox's boards having some funky NIC problems I would get in touch with them as I'm sure they have heard of others with the problem. I peronally have no trouble with mine but many others have mentioned this problem.
