i have the sblive, 3com nic, and pci modem and mine are, from the bottom up, nic, modem, sblive in 6,5,4 then usb, fan, and blocked by vid heatsink in 3,2,1
i kinda threw mine in too...and it worked fine. People usually tell me to place each card in one at a time and boot up...then shut down...then place another card in...and so on...to avoid to IRQ conflict.
the ONLY irq sharing is between the nic and the usb host controller. sometimes it just works from the start (like in my case), and sometimes it takes a bit of juggling...but in general the best way to go about it is one card at a time
I just put together a system using an 8K7A and I was going to put in the NetGear FA311 from my old Dell until I found out there were problems (OK, so I tried it anyway). The 2 I have seen mentioned are some kind of spontaneous reboots and (the one I got) a "no signal input" message that comes up on the monitor (like when you turn it on but the box isn't on). As far as I know it's a lost cause. I paid 5 bucks on ebay for a new nic. If that doesn't work I'll have to shell out $20 or so for a new one.
I put together a system based on the Epox EP-8K7A for a customer recently and bought the Netgear FA311 to put in it for him. When that card is in there it will not reboot properly. If you tell the system to reboot it will just turn off. This is really annoying when you are trying to install a bunch of software and get the thing going for the first time. I replaced it with a Linksys (I think) NIC that I got for free with a MIR, and it works fine. Don't know what the issue is with the Netgear NICs, but it sounds like a lot of people have encountered it. Don't know why your Linksys isn't going though.
i put in my oldnetgear fa-310tx and it worked just fine--but now i have problems with 3dmark2001...eventhough the system run fine for 12hrs straight under sisoft sandra 2001
