EPoX-8K7A & 1.2GHz (266) not compatible??

According to EPoX's own .pdf, they do not recommend the 1.2GHz/266 CPU in this motherboard.

Does anyone know if this is true or not? I find it hard to believe that a board that has gotten such good reviews by Anandtech forum goers would not support it.

Someone please tell me your experiences with a 1.2GHz/266 & the 8K7A board.

Thanks!

do search on epox--i think there are some peeps who use 1.2 ghza athlon 266bus with this board.I myself use 1.4ghz 266bus athlon on this board and it worked great. Just wished they would point out in the manual--in order to use 2 dimm slot you have to up the ddr slot voltage. I was frustrated a few weeks ago about this prob.

Wow, good to know about the DDR voltage...my 8K7A+ is due here early next week, along with 2x256 PC2100 Crucial. I would have been pulling my hair out 🙂

I just built a computer a week ago with this motherboard/CPU combination. Absolutely no problems. I saw the same thing you did at EPOX's website. Everywhere else, it says the 1.2 GHZ 266 FSB is okay for this mobo.

ddeder, have you tried o/c it? I read in another thread that the 1.2's come unlocked... uhh.. wow?

Wouldn't that mean you could just change the multiplier to like 10 or 11 and still run at 133x2? (10=1333, 11=1466) - I bought a retail one (only +$10 after shipping gets me a 3 year warranty!)

Did you have to update your BIOS to the 1606 when you got it? What drivers to you use? (God, I sound paranoid - you'd think I hadn't done this before!)

(I just hate for my home system to have any problems - I can fix any at work, and friends - but when it's mine, I get a brain freeze)

I am planning on ordering the EPoX-8K7A board and some DDR RAM (probably 256Mb) this evening. How do I go about increasing the voltage to make the RAM compatable with the motherboard? Its in BIOS right? Also, what should I set it to???

Thanks!

I'm running a comp. with 1.2 ghz(266) chip OCed to 1.4ghz with EPOX-8K7A, it's working fine. The motherboard has a switch where you can up the voltage on your ram and cpu.

running at 9*155, I had to up the core voltage to 1.91v but it stays cool with good hsf. I'm using 256mb 2100 crucial ram by the way.

No, I have not tried overclocking it. I have never overclocked a computer and don't really have an interest in it right now. Most everything is auto-detected by the bios. I changed one jumper on the mobo to account for the 266 FSB.
