Hello, I have the epox 4g4a+ and I was looking through the epox website and noticed they have a new BIOS revision dated 8-22-02 with the following release notes:

Mainboard model name: 4G4A, 4G4A+, 4G4AN and 4G4AI
BIOS filename: 4G4A2822.BIN (CA00)

FIXES IN THIS BIOS:

? Added USB 2.0 option selectable

? Show correct DRAM PC2700 / PC3200 during POST

? Added support for Celeron 2.0 GHz. CPU

UPDATED IN PREVIOUS BIOS 06/17/2002:

? Updated VGA BIOS to version 2614

? Intel ref. code updated to version 1.2

? ADD-card support added to show TV-out during POST

? When resuming from standby mode, the CPU temperature is not correctly detected, solved.

Has anybody tried this new Bios? my current bios is the April 24 version (Original that came with mobo). the most overclock i can do with my minimal knowledge is 2.85ghz on my p4 2.53ghz with 512mb corsair xms pc3200 DDR memory. If you have tried this new 8-22-02 bios can you tell me your opinion or experiences with it? I have been having weird problems lately (a few abnormal unexpected reboots and screen blanking) so i was wondering if flashing the motherboard with the new bios will help any.

Also, where can I find the website that has the older EPOX 4g4a+ bios.. like my 4-24 version?

Thank you in advance

The voltages appear better with the newer BIOS. but it limited my OC.

I flashed back (to the 424)

Although some have said that the newer BIOS is nice. I guess I have a fringe CPU, and need the funky swaying Vcore more then I do stable ones :)

well.. i finally flashed the bios... -_-

voltages would fluctuate a lot.. and I can't overclock anymore... I used to be able to do 2.85 with a vcore of 1.65.. but not with the newest bios. Although it has nice features and it now reads my corair ram as pc3200. I'll wait for another bios.. this just sucks that i couldn't overclock. I wish they would post a BIOS update for the HIGHPOINT raid controller though.. Mine is acting up i think. whenever I do lots of intensive stuff using the drives that are attached to the raid controlloer the computer would just hand and crash until i have to reset it. Any of you experience such a thing? grrrr >_<

Hi,

I am running 2822 right now and I see no difference between this and 2424 or other intermediate ones.

The new option in 2822 bios to turn off USB 2.0 sounds extremely suspicious to me (see my posts on USB 2.0 not working with my new Yamaha external USB 2.0 burner). I think Epox found compatibility problems with their implementation of USB 2.0, so they decided to add an option to disable it like in my case.

USB 2.0 is backwards compatible, there should be NO REASON at ALL to disable it. I tried all the BIOS's out there including some nasty beta ones and NONE OF THEM WORKed for USB 2.0 devices. I say we were all SCAMMED by the promise of 6 USB 2.0 ports. Now I have 6 USELESS USB 2.0 ports.

Hm... maybe some lawyer can pick this up and do a class action against Epox for false advertisement.

I found no difference in performance with the new bios. Same overclock numbers.

I actually spent a good 6 hours the other day messing around with these 4G4A+ bios's (as well as throwing lots and lots of things against my walls in frustration. ;))

4/24 BIOS - 1.6A @ 2.4 (16x150) w/ 1.5v. RAID BIOS did not always load after initial boot screen.
6/17 BIOS - 1.6A @ 1.6 w/ 1.5v. Adjusting vcore to 1.7v did not help my cpu boot into Windows at all. RAID BIOS did not always load after initial boot screen.
8/22 BIOS - 1.6A @ 2.4 (16x150) w/ 1.65v. RAID BIOS always loaded after initial boot screen.

Had a lot of problems with the onboard RAID, so I just disabled the damn thing and went back to the 4/24 BIOS where I could keep my vcore nice and low. :D

Edit :: You can find lots of lots of good information and those BIOS revisions that you were looking for here in their files section.
