Go used and play before you buy.

I've had an Epi LP for 13 years and it's a great guitar. Around here, used Epi LP's can be had for $350 all day. If you like Strats/Teles, MIM is not a bad option. They usually feel and sound pretty good. An aftermarket set of pickups is always nice (that goes for the Epi as well).

But Quality is all over the board. Definitely play and examine before buying.

There's NOTHING wrong with a good ole' MIM strat, especially if you keep it long enough and throw a jeff beck PUP in there.

in other news, i just bought my first gibson les paul:biggrin: studio deluxe and it's a dream to play.

There was something wrong with MY mexi strat then. It wasn't made well and I returned it and went with something else.

Basically correct except for the first part. There is no corp over Gibson. Gibson is the parent company.

I thought so too, but on the Epiphone wiki I saw this:
" Epiphone was bought by Chicago Musical Instrument Company, which also owned Gibson Guitar Corporation, in 1957. " Which made me think there's one company that owns both. It's not clear though so I think you're right as that's what I thought in the first place as well.

Yeah, just say it. Fenders sound like a tin can 😉. That is how I always described it. Then I got a tele. It had this unique raw sound to it. It's awesome. Now, I kind of like some of the Fender sounds. One I played was the Mustang. I liked it alot. It still had that tin can sound, but it's no overdone like the Strat. It just had substance.

Buyer's remorse after I got my Mexi Strat. Once I heard the Tele, I fell in love with the warmer sound and the look itself.

That was a long time back. Gibson Corp. has been it's own boss since 1986.

Amp? I guy I work with fixes up Epiphone Valve Jr's. 15w all tube.
He buys a few bucks worth of parts and they sound golden. I'm going to enlist him.

I had a Valve Jr. Not a fan at all. For the record they're 5W and LOUD. Well too loud for an apartment to quiet for a band. Didn't hit the sweet spot unless the volume was at noon which was really, really, loud.

I'll never get an amp without a master volume again. I just got one of these for the apartment:

2W, all tube. Can be dimed without shaking the walls and good gain at low volumes. A little on the bright side. I prefer the sound of Fender amps over Vox chime, but with a little EQ it's bad ass.

And yes, I have heard the same about the valve jr. That's what the modifications fix.
But if that box sounds better out of the box...I might get that instead.

Yeah. Try it out and see what you think. I tried a ton of amps looking for a good one for the apartment and that was the best for my needs (tube, low wattage, low profile, and master volume). Your mileage and needs may vary.
