Epic win at laundromat today

The place I go to charges $3 for a wash--so after I complete the wash, I transfer it over to the dryer, insert another $1.25--and as I pull out the lint tray to clear it out (which no one ever does and is stupid as a result), I find four one dollar bills trapped in there, which were super crisp since they'd probably gone through a few cycles already.

As a result the load cost a grand total of $0.25.
 
I guess that's good, but jesus $3 per wash? Is it that price everywhere? I pay 1$ for wash and 1$ for dry.
 
It's 3.00 for a load here too, in the small washers.

Then I spend another 1$ on drying.

I'm surprised it costs so much to wash a load of clothes. Why don't you buy a second hand washer/dryer for ~$150 or so? It seems like you'd make that money back quickly, plus it's more convenient.

Of course, all of the laundromats where I live are extremely shady so maybe it's different elsewhere?

the only time the laundromat can be epic win is when you meet a super hot girl there who is in booty shorts and a tank top and nothing else because it's laundry day and you do something other than post on anandtech "OMG THERE IS A HOT CHIC HERE I WANT TO PUT MY PENOR IN HER WAT DO I DO!?>!?"
