Epic Movies this time

Well I already did epic songs, so this time let's do movies. The idea here being any movie that moved you, not necessarily your favorite movie. And to keep from being too obvious please don't name anything that won the best picture Oscar.

The ones I'll name are Shawshank Redemtion, Saving Private Ryan (it should have won best picture but didn't), and Princess Mononoke (anime).

Dumb and Dumber, Monty Python's Life of Brian, and Happy Gilmore. Sure they're not the most serious of films but they're great entertainment.

First that pops in to my head:

Brave heart
AHX
Princess Mononoke
Gave of the fireflies
A Bronx tale (I think thats the name)

I can't think of anything else (other then the above mentioned).

Dude epic films and no ones mentioned the king of the 21st century,
Gladiator.

I've also agree on Princess Mononoke. Anybody that says this is a bad movie needs to take the blinders off and pay attention to what the movie is trying to say.

dont know if it won an oscar or not:

ten commandments
ben hur
brave heart
schindlers list

imho i would not consider gladiator epic, it was good, but it lacked the emotional rollercoaster that the movies i mentioned had. you cried, you laughed, you sat in the edge of your seat. also, the fact that the good guy was sure to win made it a bit predictable.

geeez people, no way that Gladiator was an epic movie.....it's just another action movie, get over it 🙂 very very good but I honestly don't think you can classify it that high.

Highlander
The Seven Samurai ( if you havent seen it- do so)
Planet of the Apes (probably made me the geek i am today)
Alien (it made parts of me move)

American Beauty gave me a whole new perspective on life.

I don't think saving private ryan should've won much of anything, it was a little single dimensional for best picture... then again shakespeare in love sucked way worse hehe.

Magnolia also had a lot of moving parts but overall wasn't as moving a movie as American Beauty.

American Beauty
Magnolia
Schindler's List
Being John Malkovich
American History X
It's a Wonderful Life (even though I didn't exactly enjoy it)

I was expecting alot of Braveheart and Shindler's List, that's why I put in the thing about best pictures. I never did see all of Shindler's List, but I fully agree with Braveheart fitting. I also would have mentioned Gladiator, but I expect it to win best picture. Also American History X is a good one, didn't think of that. I thought of another good one too I don't know if anyone remembers a movie from the mid 80's called Red Dawn. I also forgot to mention Full Metal Jacket.

Ok. Maybe that will revive my thread...

if an epic is one from which you draw on for years, then:
Little Big Man, find the book, trust me. As for Glad....
"an epic of boring proportions".

True, American Beauty is cool. This guy just starts giving a f*ck about everything and does what he wants to do....very good movie.

Just an update:

Braveheart- won 5 Acadamy Awards. Including BEST PICTURE(1995)
Schindlers List- won 8 AA´s Including BEST PICTURE (1993)
Ben Hur- won 12 AA´s Including BEST PICTURE (1959)
Titanic- won 11 AA´s Including BEST PICTURE (1997)
Ten Commandments- 1 AA. FINALLY...

But seriously, Some of those were obvious. He said no Oscar winners..

But now one of my favorite. Sling Blade. See it. It is one of the best. (won the AA for best written screenplay written directly for the screen)😀

Besides some of the ones already mentioned, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is an epic...

that and Gladiator...the 2 best movies this year! 🙂

no fair saying nothing that didn't win Best Picture Oscar 😛 ... that immediately cuts a lot of "epic" movies out of the running - like one my personal favorites that would be considered an epic, "Lawrence of Arabia."

But since you said no Best Picture winners, that leads me suggest the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" series. They fit the bill perfectly, and i would definitely consider them epics 😀
