i don't know, the guy who cut down the tree looked convincingly dumbfounded, but the commentary and videowork from the camerawomen says conspiracy. Why does the video pan over to view the full side of the house? Why does the tree conveniently fall on a "porch" section, etc. and not full on?

What a noob. You don't cut tree like that. The cut on the opposite side should be higher than the initial wedge.

My grandfather (who owned a sawmill) taught me to make the drop cut higher than the wedge, and angled slightly downward. If the cuts reach the same level, you lose control of the tree.

All the person with the camera had to do was use a rope to pull the tree. They all suck. It almost seems staged it was so blatantly obvious.

The tree was notched on the correct side, but the notch didn't look to big.

Yup, you saw what i saw then. The guy was doing the back cut in the wrong spot.

In today's economy if I was their insurance company and saw that video, I'd decline it for lack of common sense. I'm not sure how insurance companies work, but if you have fire insurance and you show them a video of you lighting the carpet on fire, I have a feeling they would not cover. 😛

Looks like he wanted to take out the deck on purpose and thought it would make for an easy way to do it while also getting rid of a tree and making a good video. He probably sent it in to Americas funniest home videos. People really get off on being on TV.
