Hey fellas, my computer just decided to stop working and I was wodnering if anyone could figure this out.
Im running an Epox EP-8k3ae with an athlon 1800xp with (originally) 256 megs of pc 2100 ddr. This last christmas my brother upgraded his ram so i got 2 perfectly fine sticks of 256 pc 3200 ddr. Yesterday I popped in the sticks, and now my system won't post. Everything turns on (fans, etc) but i get no display at all. There was a faint smell in the air while i was figuring what was wrong, but i figured it might have just been the large amount of dust that had been collected in there. I took the hsf off and everythign to check the cpu and it looks fine. I have tried reseating the ram, etc, but to no avail. If anyone could help with this dilemma Id much appreciate it.
THanks,
Dan:(

sorry to ask -
did you defiinitely click the RAM in place hard enough? sometimes - very stiff =

Also, did you press it in too hard - did the mobo bend a little?

Yes the mobo did bend a little because the ram was being stubborn. And i think i put the ram in place hard enough because i reseated it 2 or 3 times..

also, does ram take up a lot of energy? because my system is all running off of a 300 watt psu (even though i dont htink this is the issue because the comp does turn on

1 - clear cmos - take battery out + unplug system + clrcmos jumper for 20 minutes
2 - remember to replace clrcmos jumper, replace battery
reboot

if not, disconnect EVERYTHING except vga/cpu/ram [1 stick, then swap them over]/psu
if still probs, take out vga
coax a beep
