This whole case to me was just symbolic of the sexism still rampant in America. I can't hardly turn on the TV without seeing some ad for some miracle weight-loss pill, HeadOn advertises on network primetime, but when is the last time any of those fraudsters were ever prosecuted?

I'm not condoning fraud (far from it!), I just want to know why it's so much worse to promise miracles cures to brokedicks.

That adage doesn't work in this case. As I already noted, they let HeadOn steal. That's just wax they say to apply directly to the forehead. And where's the outrage there?

:D

Yeah, my post was a little too subtle. I was referring to your statement, "I just want to know why it's so much worse to promise miracle cures to brokedicks," because that's basically what politicians do, promise miracle cures to brokedicks, except different kinds of cures, and mostly to brokeheads.

Actually, I have never heard of HeadOn. But then, I don't watch a lot of TV.

Head on! Apply directly where it hurts. Head on! Apply directly where it hurts. Head on! Apply directly where it hurts.

There are a lot of sh*t products such is that, enzyte, the nasal strips, those breath pills that were out some years ago which you'd swallow because they said bad breath comes from the stomach, etc. Really they ought all to be charged because they are simply fraudulous. Buyer beware, of course, but these people are outright con men.

Oh I agree. It's just that I can't figure out what the difference here is with this Enzyte case and those others besides a million disappointed men.

In other news, smiling Bob got people to spend $100 for bigger genitalia.

One topic for this news story is how the government played an important consumer protection role.

Libertarians naively think that a crippled government would not see the power vacuum filled by companies able to make themselves virtually immune to investigation and prosecution.

There's an overhead to make our society work.

Way to straw man! I don't know of any libertarians who approve of theft of property through fraudulent means, but hey when did facts ever stop you from trolling your little ideological agenda, eh?

Headline should be:

"Penal system strikes balls-deep against fradululent male enhancement claims!"

That would be a real sinker.

In Craig's defense, they ARE selling a drug, that should be the government's job. I'm sure if we give them enough dough, we could get a bigger Dick.

As a friend told me... If any of that non-prescription miracle 'add inches' crap actually worked it wouldn't need to be advertised.

As long as their agonizingly annoying commercials are off TV, I'm happy.

Now I'm going to put on my Kinoki footpads and go to bed.

Head On is a legit drug... well... by that I mean the FDA monitors it... Enzyte was an herbal supplement... no FDA control.

People like to believe there are pills to fix all of life's problems... be it depression, heart disease, small dicks, no tits, bad breath, Alzheimer's, snoring, bad hair cuts, you name it...

Drug companies are just as bad as these guys... they just have gov backing.

So this guy could face 20 years in prison (not saying he doesn't deserve it), while the leaders of AT&T and other telecoms will probably get immunity for working with the government to illegally spy on Americans. Go figure...

WTF?

/Mr. Rogers: Can you say non sequitur?

In regard to Enzyte, caveat emptor and the old adage "If it sounds too good to be true...."

This isue really doesn't address whether or not Enzyte was effective, though I've always questioned the validity of "herbal supplments" as being effective for anything else besides making your wallet skinnier.

http://www.lawyersandsettlements.com/case/headon.html

There's a class action lawsuit pending against the makers of head-on, and...

The National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus has concluded there is no competent and reliable scientific evidence supporting HeadOn's claims as a safe and effective headache pain reliever.

It seems to me that the difference between the people that the government goes after, are the extra levels of fraud, and consequently more complaints. If Enzyte has simply had false claims, they might have been simply told to stop claiming things that they can't prove. But Enzyte was also charged with...

...manipulated credit card transactions and the company's refusal to accept returns or cancel orders. They said unauthorized credit card charges generated thousands of complaints over unordered products.

That kind of behavior calls for additional levels of prosecution. I'm sure that there were also thousands of more complaints against the Enzyte makers than the head on makers for several reasons. The credit card fraud, refusal to cancel orders, the higher amount of money lost, and the larger amount of disappointment when the product failed. With head-on you're out $6, they never have your credit card number, and you can return it to Walgreen's.

We know that the government can't prosecute everyone with their current budget and staffing levels. I think that the number of complaints is a good way to decide who to target first.
