Enzotech Extreme-X in SilverStone SG03.

Synomenon

Lifer
Has anyone successfully used an Enzotech Extreme-X with the SilverStone SG03? The Extreme-X is 86mm tall. SilverStone says that the heatsink cannot exceed 82mm in height. SilverStone's own NT06 Evolution is 82mm and before that was released their SG03 page said the max height for a heatsink in the SG03 was 78mm (same height as their NT06-Lite).

I saw a thread somewhere where someone did put an Extreme-X in the SG03, but would like confirmation from someone here.

That's with the 25mm fan installed on top of it. If you click on the "Details" button, it shows a schematic of the heatsink. In the schematic, the height is 86mm.

Uhhh... Ok. That's my thread. No need to point me to my own thread.

I posted the OP on three different forums so if you find the third one, there's no need to post a link to it here either.

I pointed it out because people on 2 (I guess 3) forums are telling you the same thing. Are you going to run the heatsink fanless? If so, then yes, 86mm is your height.

If not, you'll have to mod the case by cutting out an area for the fan to stick out of. Cooling-wise it would work extremely well, but it'll increase noise, not to mention you'll have a fan sticking out of your case.

If you have nothing constructive to add, please say no more. The OP was directed at users who have actually tried this.

Listen jackass, everyone's telling you the same thing and you're not listening. I even gave you some good advice for what you would have to do to make it fit, and you jumped on me.

So go ahead and buy it and find out for yourself what EVERYONE is telling you.

You don't even know what you're talking about. Why would I need to cut a hole for the fan to stick out? You do know that in the SG03, the PSU sits directly above the CPU heatsink right? Like I said, if you haven't tried this personally, then shut the hell up.

oh. I thought you were talking about the LC03.

You win.

Now go ahead and try it and tell us how it went.

Got the Extreme-X yesterday. All I had to do was take the black shroud off and it fit perfectly. No bending of the heatpipes or modding required.

Are the temps acceptable? Does your PSU fan draw air enough through it? Can you considered change that fan to a higher speed? or does it ramp up on it's own?
Another thought I had was a "thin fan" 10 or 15 mm under the heatsink, possible?

I've got an Extreme-X in my slightly modded V1000BW. I took out the side fan & just put a grill over it to allow the Extreme-X to pull in fresh air.
I think my temps are acceptable...mid-30's idle w/room ambient of 28c. That's w/a Q6700 @ 3.0Ghz.
I did replace the noisy Adda fan w/a Zalman ZM-F3, however. Temps went up a degree or 2 after doing it, but it's much easier on my ears.
