So I tried to reserve a car with Enterprise. They told me a minivan would cost $89/day.

I'm like, okay, but this will be paid by my insurance. They asked my insurance info, claim number, etc. Then told me the new rate was $39/day. WTF? That's a huge difference.

So on the average, customers get ripped off unless they rent through an insurance claim. Sucks I think.

Okay, I've got a way around that now.

Next time you rent a car via Enterprise, do this:

1. Tell them its through an insurance claim.
2. Give them "Bristol West" as the insurance carrier.
3. Make up a claim number
3a. Make sure you wrote the number down before tellin them.
3b. The number just has to start with a date then time then a number like:
0410200417001.
That's how bristol west keeps track of their claims, date and time
then sequence number.
4. After they give you the insurance rate, tell them that Bristol West informed you that they need to bill you and you'd pass the bill onto Bristol West for reimburstment of the cost. This is Bristol West's policy on car rentals. Enterprise can't contact them for billing.

Now you've got the insurance rate. That's like a savings of $50/day on a minivan. ;)

I'll have to check my dictionary, but I'm pretty sure that's called fraud.

They have negotiated a special rate with ins co. Just like they have if you are AMEX cardholder, Costco member, AAA, AARP, college alumni association, etc...

Yes, you are going to get ripped if don't use some kind of "group rate".

I was tricked/forced into signing for their additional daily insurance ($15/day) after my first car accident. I ended up with the car for between one and two months. When the bill came, I was pissed. They eventually halved it, but it was still bogus.

Is that the 'If anything happens to the car, Including if you total it, you just hand them the keys and walk away from it Insurance'.
I was offered that, and I declined it.
How did they 'trick' you into signing it?

I had a Ford Escort for nearly a month, paid for by Allstate. They charged them twenty bucks a day. I should have gone to california in it. :)
