Enter direct path to a document

We are trying to access a document that is on a network drive (xserve OS 10.3) and several folders down. On the Windows side, you can type in a direct network path and open the file without navigating through the folder tree. Is there any way to enter in the full path to a document in Office 2004? Perhaps a program or a script that someone has written?

you may be able to do it from the Terminal with "open" like this:

open /Applications/Word.app /path/to/your/network/file

Not in front of my Mac at the moment though...
