You can use the same lame argument to crack down on violent Hollywood movies, violent music lyrics, etc all of which people can erroneously link to inciting crazy people to commit acts of violence. Yet restrictions on the 1st and 2nd amendment won't make our society any safer will it? We'll just be reacting in a knee jerk manner to limit the rights of sane people in hopes that the crazies won't find something else to set them off or use some alternative method to commit mass violence.

From the website of the people who made that video.

1.Require a criminal background check for every gun sold in America
We already have the Brady Bill
2.Ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines
We did that before and it didn't end mass shootings
3.Make gun trafficking a federal crime, including real penalties for “straw purchasers”
It already is. We even have our own agency for those crimes.

Sigh....

Come on guys it's in black and white and some of them are even wearing eye glasses! We should really listen them because they've been on TV.

edit: Since they are demanding a plan, here's one. Nothing, we do nothing. This is really about the fact that people have an illusion of safety that get's exposed when something like the Sandy Hook shooting happens. They insist that the government takes action to stop whatever caused the shooting because that will restore the illusion.

The fact is there plenty of ways that a crazy but moderately intelligent person could kills of innocent people and that's not going to change anytime soon.

I agree. We need a plan to keep the mentally ill from going postal and killing people. Notice I make no mention of gun control.

Yep.

"officials disarmed an explosive device wired to the apartment's front entrance, allowing a remotely controlled robot to enter and disable other explosives.[52] The apartment held more than 30 homemade grenades, wired to a control box in the kitchen, and 10 gallons of gasoline."

If the cops hadn't been clued into that, and someone yanked that door open to tell him to turn down his music, booooom. Plus with 10 gallons of gasoline that sucker is gonna go up like a roman candle, potentially taking a bunch of groggy confused tenants with it.

Not to mention the possibility of walking from theatre to theatre tossing grenades down the aisles.

The only way to stop gun violence is to upload everyone's consciousness to a massive server and live in a virtual space forever. Sounds like heaven to me. Someone tell Obama.

The only kind of gun control that REALLY works is the kind that involves having NO guns. That won't happen, so anything else is pretty pointless really. I don't like nuts having easy access to assault rifles or any firearm really and I wish I could do something, I really do. But I also am not in the mood to ditch the second amendment all together.

Ever think the universe has all the earmarks of a calculating machine?

Nice that you realize your belief in the 2nd amendment is a mood. PS, nobody gives a fuck about your mood. The sociopaths have had their way long enough. It's time. The liberal mind that can still reason has had enough. Time for the brain dead altered reality to die.

I don't believe we did. The Assault Weapons Ban was not retroactive.

Columbine proved retroactivity wouldn't help much. Only 3 of the 16 clips they used that would have been covered by a retroactive assault weapons ban and it was for only one of the 4 weapons that used.

Here are the weapons they used. I bolded what would have been banned by the AWB.

Eric Harris was equipped with a 12-gauge Savage-Springfield 67H pump-action shotgun, (which he discharged a total of 25 times) and a Hi-Point 995 Carbine 9 mm carbine with thirteen 10-round magazines, which he fired a total of 96 times.

Klebold was equipped with a 9 mm Intratec TEC-9 semi-automatic handgun with one 52-, one 32-, and one 28-round magazine and a 12-gauge Stevens 311D double-barreled sawed-off shotgun. Klebold primarily fired the TEC-9 handgun, for a total of 55 times.

This is why we need to repeal the Second Amendment. It is a bizarre cultural artifact in the Constitution.

Good luck getting that through Congess. Even better luck collecting the over 300,000,000 firearms in the hand of the public.

As in confiscating existing weapons? Of course you realize such action would be responsible for millions more deaths?

not to mention highly illegal. what are they going to do? go door to door and search EVERY house?

this is a great way to start civil war 2.0 though.

It's not that theirs is better, it is simply that they have an audience that is vastly larger than yours or any other average person's.

You can certainly dismiss them, but to strawman against them... is just sad.
