I'm really getting sick of getting "We at (our store) are wish to express our condolences to the people in New York....etc etc..... Here are emergency phone numbers to call...."

Then two lines down "HARD DRIVES ONLY $100!!!! BLOW OUT DEALS!!!! SALE!!!!"

Very poor taste.

"I want to die like my Grandfather: in my sleep, not yelling and screaming like all the other people in the car. "

Kinda like the pot calling the kettle black if you ask me.......

Frankly, if these messages cause people to make a donation--even if it's just one more person giving a few bucks to the Red Cross--then who cares?

I think most people are mature enough to handle a little mix of concern and business as usual.

I'm getting sick of people posting things in Hot Deals when they should be in Off Topic.

UPDATE: Read Zdnet for online fraud unsolicited e-mails on charitable giving here.

I understand completely where you're coming from Fritzo. His point is "fake concern" (i.e. Hey! Maybe people would be more willing to purchase from us if we show we're sympathetic?).

Eh...I could take it or leave it to be honest, but I do frown when I see such messages. Every other media outlet is already pointing out the same information (give, give, give---all relief aid is worthwhile for these tragedies), who doesn't know where to contribute? At least most major e-tailers like Amazon are doing it tactfully (front page only--that's it)...

Note: So this thread doesn't mute the real point. If you can contribute (money, time, items, whatever) to the relief efforts, by all means do so!

Hey, at least I didn't try to sell ya something :D

Agreed though...this should be in OT

Ditto!
Reminds me of newsgroup spammers, who would post their message to different newsgroups just for their (usually useless) message to be read by more people.

yawn.....oh.... did someone say something ... A vast majority here need to learn to vent your hostility in a more productive manner. Your age/maturaty level is so apparent i find it humorous as well as pathetic ... aside of the fact that it is obviously in the wrong section section he has a valid point.... If you dissagree say so without being a Lamma and instead of flaming just ask him to move this thread... BTW i think you will find that there are far more people that will agree with him, and of those who dissagree, few will act with so little shame

Irony of life...this tragedy has brought out the best of us and it has brought out the worst of us. It's shameful how people try to make money from other people's misery and tragedy.

I agree, sales are down...no mention of THEIR donations.

I'll now send them back. GFY!

1. Like you guys never accidentally posted in the wron forum before. Buncha whinners.

2. Some of you were not getting my point...I've been getting 50 emails a day from companies giving fake sympathy just to get you to read their spam. I think it's shameful for them to be using this disaster as a sales gimmick.
