thinking about new video card but i am concerned i dont have enough in my current PS for my new card. The UPS (APC) says i am drawing about 450 watts in the management console but not sure how much i should believe that. i have:

P5N32-E plus
4x1gig crucial
q6600 ( next week )
10 x 320gig segate HD
2 PCI cards ( raid & sound )
7600GT

Do i need to upgrade PS for new video card?

I would generally say that a seasonic 600watt should be more then enough for an 8800gt and q6600 but your 10 hard drives might be an issue. Assuming that the UPS is correct then you are currently using 360watts (assuming 80% efficiency for your seasonic) is that at full load or idle? If those numbers are load then you probably will be ok, if thats at idle then you might need a 750+.

My rig is currently using 234 watts according to the apc management software and I'm using an 850w ps.

Harddrives consume very little power, and consume the most power when spinning up. If you have them spin up seperately, then your 600w unit should be just fine. And even if you don't, then I still think your 600w unit will be fine.

Doing any research at all would lead you to the conclusion that your UPS is far from correct. If you really want to know how power you drawing invest volt meter but the bottom line is your current PSU is fine.
