Okayyyyy....

Does helping a friend fixing problems after problems with VW count?

It depends.

My point is, most people here jump on the hatewagon and talk out their ass.

I don?t hate VW?s my brother had a Gti it was a fun car to drive handled like only a German car can but it had a lot of problems. I would consider buying one but they seem to be a bit over priced for what you get compared to other makers. Hopefully they have improved their QC over the past few years.

I love my dub.

Ive also noticed a lot of people bash dubs in the later years... why? Cause they don't take care of em. So it's the owner, not the car.

Will my next car be a dub? Guess you'll have to wait and see ;)

All of them have been plagued with some sort of electrical gremlins at one point or another. The worse being the Jetta who's front passenger side window just decided to stop working for some reason.

Hey, different strokes for different folks. :)

As for the passenger window in your friends car, that sounds like the famous window regulator problem that plagued early MK IV VW's. Those are replaced under warranty. (and those problems don't affect 2001.5+ VW's)

My sister's 93 Jetta GL had it share of problems but non of them major. Just lots of little annoying things like power door locks stop working.
I've heard from friends taking their VW to the shop very often.
They are simply not as reliable as Toyota.

What year was the GTI?

Older models were somewhat troublesome when it came to electrical components. :( From what i've seen with my latest VW, the quality control has improved immensely.

98 Jetta
01 Beetle
00 or 01 Jetta can't remember exactly what year

They have all had numerous problems. Don't get me wrong, I love my Jetta but I can't ever bring myself to buy another VW because of all the times the cars have let my family and me down. Never had so many problems with a car manufacturer and we have had Mercurys, Fords, Nissans and Subarus and none of them have ever had the amount of problems the VWs have given us.

The next car I buy will either be a Subaru or Lexus. Depends on the financial siutation at the time.

I don't have a problem with VW reliability, or the issues that have become more common over the last few years.. my biggest problem is the way that VW has choosen deal with these issues. ie, very poorly.

This is actually the number one reason I will never set foot in another VW showroom again. :|

My neighbor has a VW. The first day he had it, it just took off and parked itself in his neighbor's drive way. It kept playing "Parkensraum, parkensraum" out of it's finely engineered speakers. Damnedest thing.

It was a 92. Some of the fault might be the dealers but the black plastic pieces around the wheels kept falling of they never could get the radio to work(at least the tape deck did :) ) the clutch would chatter the battery kept running down and the floor on the passenger side would get wet all the time. It was a fun car to drive when it wasn?t in the dealer.

most of our VAG made cars are ok.

2002 golf TDI - no problems

'99 passat - ""

'88 golf - no real problems.. sending unit for oil died once, temp gauge is intermittent, had to redo shocks/brakes/CV joints/bearings, but thats expected with age.. this one is abused a lot too.

'84 audi 5000 turbo - door handles broke once or twice, power window broke once, some other random electronic stuff, cracked head.

Strange.
Only VW owners fail to take care of their cars?

"My friends VW is a POS, you should have seen it!" <----- NO.
"I saw a VW pulled over at the side of the freeway. Must be those electrical problems." <----- NO.
"I know a VW mechanic who says..." <----- NO.
"My neighbour has a VW and it's in the shop..." <-----NO.
"I read in Stuff magazine that the editors ashtray cover broke." <----- NO.

"One of my past VW's gave me trouble with..." <----- YES!

If you are going to run your mouth about how bad a car company is, please PLEASE have firsthand experience. Otherwise, kindly STFU and move along. :)

Where are you when we are GM/Ford bashing?????

Gets under your skin when someone attacks your bread and butter, eh? :p

You don't see me starting an anti-Nissan-bashing thread to support Nissan!

I like VW's, not just their new models. I'd love to own a aircooled Beetle, Sirocco, or Mk1 Golf.

I second that also. And check JD Powers reports, VW comes in way lower then even ford in most results.

Hmmm.

One thing I notice right away is that all of those cars are from the Mexico plant. From what i've observed, the models built in Germany (Passat, Jetta Wagon) or Brazil (Golf/GTI) seem to fare much better in terms of reliability.

Again, i'm sorry to hear of all those problems.

I really dont care for VWs that much. However this new R32 golf thats coming out ( I think thats the model #) is gonna be NICE!!! Its out in europe from what i understand but won't be coming to the US until this winter or spring. I guess this is VW's answer to the STi and EVO VIII. Its gonna be priced abit lower around 30k.

Yup, it's definitely a great little car.

Did you see this comparison of the 3?

A trainer I know at the gym - his 01 Beetle has been in the shop about 10 times since he has gotten it. The most recent is electrical issues. Oh yea, his most recent loaner from VW - a Golf, which he for 2 months, also died on him. I had to give him a ride one day to the dealership. Man was he pissed. I haven't talked to him in a month since I've switched gyms but he said he was selling his Beetle asap, so I assume he got something other than a VW.

Ha ha, the mechanic speaks up, and it's not good for VW.

So, what do you not like about them, Marlin?
