Enhanced SpeedStep for desktop

I noticed I have a BIOS option to activate Enhanced SpeedStep for my C2D CPU. The default is OFF. Is there any reason why you would want to keep it turned off? I'm not sure how ESS works on a desktop machine. I assume this is different technology than what Intel uses to dynamically shut down and activate sections of the C2D chip for energy savings.

No I'd leave it off if you are overclocking. Speedstep is bad and some people say doesn't even work if you're overclocking (may make you unable to keep stable).

As long as you aren't overclocking, no reason to keep it off. If you are overclocking, it's best to keep it turned off. You will likely need to increase the vcore to keep it stable overclocked, and speedstep will lower the voltage when it lowers the multi, and could potentialy lower it too much to stay stable, since your FSB will still be above stock when it kicks it.
