I'd say 2, since really the question in it's entirety is just the latter half of the statement, and that is what is being answered, the first part about it being Sunday is completely irrelevant so should not be dictating the form of response.

Either one is correct.
Number 2 is appropriate regardless of how the question is worded and the question is grammatically incorrect anyway.
