Damn, $2000USD/kg at the cheapest? Hope it doesn't use much boron....it would be like a car that runs by burning $20 bills...but it has no emissions!!!...

They said they could recycle the boron.

And they'll do it for free right?

It's like the oil you use in your car. It's all recycled. I used to work at a car shop. We charged people more than the oil we bought cost, then we sold the old oil to be recycled. If you remove what we made for recycling the oil it cost about $1 to do an oil change but we charged $14. I'm sure it will be recycled but we will still pay for it on both ends.

no, recycle as in "convert it to boron oxide, then convert it back to boron" while in the car. At least, that's what I got from the article...

They'll still charge you for it, but it's not going to be the $2000/kg that Lazy8s quoted for purchasing Boron. The process will be cheap for them, so they can reduce the cost to the consumer considerably and still be making huge profits.

They'd probably charge you $2000/kg for the boron, then give it back to you when you take in the boron oxide for recycling... Then you'll have to pay them for the energy it takes to separate boron oxide into boron and oxygen. It's exactly the same as paying to have a battery charged.

You're smoking cock, maybe you should go look and see if boron even exists in a free elemental state. And if it doesn't, see how much energy it takes to refine it out.

Dullard did a poor example of explaining why the OP's story is just a crock..
"engines that run on water" - implies water is the fuel.

Regardless, this is not a miracle. It takes ENERGY to produce the Boron..
In fact, the LAWS of thermodynamics make it clear that it will take MORE energy to produce the boron than the car can recover from the boron/water reaction.

What this "invention" actually is is a storage medium for energy. The energy is stored chemically to be used later, in the form of Boron. The boron is reacted with water to produce hydrogen, and of course, heat. The heat is energy that is most likely wasted. Then the hydrogen is reacted with oxygen in another reaction; again with a loss of energy.

Then, when all the Boron is used up, MORE ENERGY has to be added to the boron oxide to return it to Boron than it will produce for the car.

Oh, and in case I wasn't clear enough, yes, the car is running on energy from some power plant. However it wastes some of that energy in the process of the necessary chemical conversons. An estimate of 20% of the energy is wasted is probably fairly accurate. Until fusion power plants are a reality, a lot of these inventions really don't do much; they simply move the source of polution. And, if you think wind/solar will ever provide more than a pittance of the energy needs for transportation, you're dreaming.
