god i hate linear algebra, and all those pmf cdf, etc probability functions. i bet this book would help ya set up some equations to solve them, although it won't help you on your tests.

I don't really like Matlab either. Overall, I prefer Mathcad. It does everything I need and I was able to learn it a lot quicker. It also seems a lot easier for organizing your data.

Edit: Thanks anyways though OP. I'm sure this will help others, and me, if I'm ever forced to use it again.

Free book is good but I think there is a reason for this.
This book might be ok for an introduction although my judgement is only based on one chapter (i.e., random number generator).
If you want to learn MATLAB seriously for statistics, try "Computational Statistics Handbook with Matlab". YOu will see how much experts authors are.

For those of you who dont feel like paying for matlab try Octave its GPL sibling. (Syntax and most everything is the same, but lacks some packages and nice gui)

matlab has been very good for me. we wrote entire simulation packages and some of our research is done entirely in matlab.
