Here's a hint, guys: German cars have crappy cup holders and usually too few of them. Germans, for some reason, cannot understand why Americans like to have something to drink while driving. If it weren't for American demand, Germans wouldn't even put cup holders in their cars.

Thats great! I'm laughing my ass off reading this! What the hell are these dummies thinking?

Perhaps you should try hooking up with women that have finished puberty, then your magic marker won't seem so magic. ;)

there might be a secret code to disable the buttons when closed. i bitched about the same thing when i bought my new phone, and the girl behind the counter pressed 2 or 3 buttons toether, and viola!

I'd rather have an electronic sensor. 99% of the time I can't get a dipstick reading on my XJ. The whole stick just gets coated with oil

That's just you being a dumbass. You have to remove the stick, wipe it off, and reinsert it.

Those coffee mug holders that come with pc towers. They're really flimsy, and if I'm searching for files and accidentally hit D: drive, it tries to close on its own and spills my coffee. :|

did you take a pic of the girl? If not, why? There is a camera on there. Add that to the engineering annoyances.;)

Pontiac G6 door locks. My wife doesn't like them to unlock when she puts the car in park so we turned that off. Unfortunately the only way to unlock the door is to hit the unlock button. Only car I've ever had that doesn't automatically unlock the door when you pull the handle from the inside.

Perhaps you did not place the key fob on your key ring? Perhaps you did but it was on a separate smaller ring (the fob's hole has a thick plastic piece around it, so it really stretches out the ring when you try to put it on).

It's still a very silly design to not bevel the keys in to avoid them being pressed on accident (which is the whole point of beveling them in).

Since this has turned into mostly a car thread...

Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems - they bitch when it gets too cold. They bitch when it gets too hot. Horrible systems and I hate the fact that they are government mandated.

My VW Passat had a low wiper fluid warning. And by warning I mean a piercing shrill of a BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP that would make your ears leak out brain matter.

Seat belt warnings that go off every 3 seconds when you go over 5MPH. Thank you car. I know I'm taking my life in my own hands. Now STFU and let me drive the the extra 80 feet from the mailbox to my garage without telling that I'm in danger.

I think they might be a little more handy if they did more than just display a warning light... like tell you the actual/estimated pressure. I believe some cars do this now, but I know mine just displays this weird low-pressure tire symbol when my car has a nice display area where it could give me pressure read outs :p.

Don't blame the engineers, often its marketing that results in products that suck.
The engineers suggest the right way to do something, and marketing changes it because they want it to look cooler in the ads.

My favorite, being told that thumbscrews on a hdmi cable, placed there to keep the cable from adding strain to the jack, would be too confusing for customers.

That's what she said.

My contribution, cell phone mp3's playing music on speakers when the headphone is removed. If my headphones accidently pop out my cell phone, could you please just pause the song and not play on full blast so that everyone around me can hear?

2002 Honda Civic: When I set the dial to defrost the windshield, the AC light comes on, and cannot be turned off. The 3 settings that do not defrost (face vent, face/foot vent, foot vent) do not have this retarded component.

What a piece of crock.

The A/C compressor is engaged on most cars when the defroster is turned on to keep the pump's seals from drying out during the winter months.

Have you ever noticed that in those DTV converted ads/warnings/whatever the hell they're called they show the person attaching an F-type antenna cable by holding it 2" away from the end and just sticking it easily on the end?

...ever try that?

...didn't work at all did it?

Marketing people live in fantasy worlds.

My telephone answering machine is retarded. It answers a call and gives the usual "Please leave a message." spiel. If the caller hangs up you hear a dial tone for a few seconds, then it says "Thank you for your call."

WTF? The caller already hung up. They are never going to hear that. It's a Panasonic so I figure that maybe it's just an asian politeness thing.

That's not to mention the fact that the menu navigation on both the answering machine and phones seems to have been designed by someone taking a very long ride on a very short bus.

The PlayStation 3 bluetooth remote has the pause button and stop button immediately above/below one another (I don't remember which is on top, which, frankly, is part of my problem). If you're using the remote in a darkened room and attempt to pause a movie, you may end up stopping it, at which point, when you try to resume, you may have to sit through several minutes of unskippable menus and warnings (as is the case with the Band of Brothers on Blu-ray, a movie that has 3 minutes of unskippable titles when you start it up and does not save your position should you hit stop accidentally). Whoever is responsible for these abominations (unskippable menus, poorly placed unlit buttons) should be killed. Nothing fancy, just dragged into the street and stoned as a warning to others.
