Congrats on the rebuild. That is where the fun really begins and you have the confidence to tackle more complex mechanical jobs which improve driving experience.

I would wait until the engine is broken in to start addressing power issues, always watching the temp gauge and checking the oil of course.

I think removing and completely rebuilding an engine is about as complex as it gets, just my 2 cents..

then you have never attempted to change a manual window to powered in a foreign car. or installed a stereo in any vehicle newer than 2007. engine is easy compared to "integrated wiring"

Painting is harder. Just too many factors that need to be considered when painting - right down the the weather conditions that day.

Well a repaint might cost some $$ in time and new materials I'd rather sand something and re-paint it than remove and repair an engine but that's just me..

Yea I know about it, even my 2005 the DIC display is part of the radio, to even install another head unit needs a $175 adapter from Metra. Not that installing audio is a piece of cake anymore, removing a motor is blood, sweat and tears kinda stuff. The window, I wouldn't bother, only bottom end cars nowadays don't have power windows unless it's like a classic Porsche or something that's worthwhile upgrading, why bother?..

Wiring isn't a big deal either for a EE minded person with the proper tools.

Nothing in a car is really hard when it comes down to it, just time consuming.

In reality most things in the world aren't that difficult. However, for many things doing it right requires specialized tools, specialized environments, etc.

Both engine internals and bodywork/painting are done best by pros. For every guy that built a stroker in his living room with a basic set of hand tools there are probably 50 others that blew up on first start. For every guy with a perfect paint job that he built a plastic enclosure to paint in, there are 100s of others with jobs that only look good from 20' away.

Most of auto repair/maintenance is just having a basic understanding of automobiles, a good set of tools, any specialty tool needed and time.

i have a truck with manual windows, i prefer it that way. my civic has manual windows as well, ill change them over to electric. when buying cars, some people see options differently. some will opt for manual windows to save money and allow them to upgrade something else.

finding the right ignition source can be the trickiest part of stereo installation these days. as the adapters have made that part pretty easy. same with alarm installation, which i think is definitely an art form. especially finding creative ways to tuck and hide them, to make them much harder to disable.

some people dont think like an EE, myself included. i actually make decisions. :biggrin:

im a programmer that does graphic interfaces, so im pretty detail-oriented as it is. i dont have many problems with wiring, since i do control wiring for industrial controllers. not everyone has that kind of background, thats why they go to specialists. its also why my friends shop makes decent money selling stereos to people that want to try to install themselves, only to bring it all back and ask for help fixing what they bunged up.
