Engine Mount replacement

I just bought a new car, 99 Nissan Altima with 86,000 miles You can really hear the engine vibrate when I get it gas(It's real bad at 1900 RPMs) so I think I may have to replace the engine mounts.

Generally how complicated is it to replace them and how bad is the bill going to hurt me? I figure I'll get it done at the same time as my tune and oil change some time next week and I know that's going to be about $150.

I'm just guessing here, i've never seen an actual estimate....but maybe $500?

You've gotta unbolt the engine mounts, hoist up the engine, replace, reinstall, etc....it may be more or less, I don't really know.

I would have to think there are some bigger issues somewhere if the mounts are bad at 86k. The car shouldnt need something like that replaced before the first schedualed tune up.

And there better be more than an oil change for $150.

Any car made after the mid 90s needs to go 100k before a schedualed tune up. Tune ups usually consist of replacing spark plugs, adjusting the timing and should be total fluid changes. But that car should have at least 14k before needing that.

A tune-up basically means they topped off your fluids and lubed up your ass.

LOL.

No, it's replacing the spark plugs, plug wires, and distributor cap, checking the timings and replacing the air filter.

I agree that the motor mounts for that car SHOULD'T need replacing yet. Which Altima model?:
Altima 2.4 GLE
Altima 2.4 XE/GXE
Altima 2.4 SE
Automatic or manual transmission? Does make a BIG difference in parts prices...

From Zygmunt motors, (one of my BMW parts suppliers using the XE/GXE for reference)

A vibration is not usually caused by a bad motor mount. A huge CLUNK when you put it in gear would be.

I remember having a car towed in because it wouldn't start. We were standing around trying to figure out what the hell was going on. Then we realized all the motor-mounts were busted and the whole engine was tilted. Apparently it wasn't grounding properly.

Wasn't grounding properly? If all the mounts were 'busted' on it then I think there would be far worse problems with the driveshaft if it was tilted.

Actually, the "clunk" could be a number of things including bad u-joints, bad transmission mounts, etc, but usually NOT the motor mounts.

tuneup.. lol. are they going to replace the points and condenser?

$10 worth of sparkplugs and a $5 airfilter i guess.
