Hi.

My engine has been recently intermittently misfiring (Or at least I think its misfiring" I have a 2004 Toyota Camry with 206k miles on it, and I want to see if anyone knows exactly what's wrong with it.

About a year ago, two of the spark plugs on my car went out and had to be replaced, but in that case, my car was running poorly the entire way to the garage.

What's happening now is that, intermittently, usually when I accelerate very hard, the engine will start shaking and not produce more power. However, it also sometimes happens when I'm at a standstill or parked where the engine will drop about 500 RPM's and start rumbling, sometimes for a few seconds, sometimes just fluctuating to normal and back.

However, when it's not doing that, the engine runs perfectly well.

Would a simple spark plug change fix this, or will I have to get all the rest of the ignition coils changed.

Thanks.

A bad misfire will generally give you a flashing malfunction light.

Yeah, but these don't seem to be bad enough to return a flashing light.

I have one of those fault code readers, and it only returns "unknown issue" with the engine.

If what you are describing is caused by a misfire, it's surely a bad one...
