Engagment ring

I am looking to purchase an engagment ring very soon. I have $5k cash saved right now. I make about $35k per year, so I think this is a good amount to spend, but correct me if I am wrong.

My question and survey is this:

How much did you spend on an engagement ring?

How many crts was the diamond?

What do you think I can get for $5k?

I made WAY more than you are making now and did not spend much more than that. Don't bankrupt yourself to get a ring.

I found mine in the river and hid it between my toes before boss man saw it.
I asked to go to the bathroom and buried it in the dirt.
Some white guy helped me find it, he died, but now I'm super rich!
Wife doesn't like it because it's pink.

$350 - 1/2 karat total wieght (.40k main stone). If you have to get her a ring that costs thousands to get her to say yes, then you probably shouldn't marry her.

Best movie of the year.

On topic, I didn't buy an engagement ring. We both got wedding bands and that was it.

my husband was still in school and working part time when he got my .55ct solitare ring. He got a great deal on blue nile for a beautiful ring. it was less than $1000 and i loved it.

Last year, for our first anniversary, he surprised me with a 1.02ct ring (solitare again) that he bought on the forums here from another member. It was a steal and I love it and i did not care if it was preowned.

you can get a lot for the amound that you want to spend if you do some searching.

No matter what? I have but one word for you: Diamelle

Does it have to be a diamond?

What kind of metal does she use? i.e. white/yellow gold, platinum, or the new trend black titanium.

Mine was also from blue nile I love it. But I got to admit blood diamond kinda made me feel guilty.

just bought one.

My brother in law helped me get a deal with his friend who owns a jewelry store.

spent $9k.
stone is 1.5 crts. Color is D.

Band is Tacori. I didn't know the band mattered much, but apprarently it does.

I'm planning the proposal right now.

I spent about $10k on a 1.5ct in a custom platinum setting. We had already agreed to get married, so the ring purchase wasn't to entice her or anything 🙂

Don't waste your money on a diamond - they AREN'T forever.

My ex spent $2k on my ring, nine years ago. I'll be lucky to get $700 for it today. If I'd known then what I know now, I would have gone for cubic zirconia, and spent the difference on the honeymoon.

In my opinion, $5k is just a waste. Anything MUCH more than $2k probably looks gaudy and fake unless people know you are wealthy. And even then, it looks gaudy.

I'd much rather have $5000 in a new car $5000 in a house downpayment than $5000 strapped to my hand (target for thieves or to be lost). But then, that is just me.

Also, if she leaves you, she can sell the $5000 ring and keep it herself while you get absolutely nothing.

I agree to a point, but $2k isn't likely to get you much of a diamond. It's not necessarily about trying to impress others, but imo it should at least have some substance to it.

To each their own though. It's just a ring. It's not so much a monetary investment as it is an emotional, heirloom-related (not sure how else to describe that) one.

She likes white gold.

that will save you some money then.
Also, is she petite? tall? are her fingers thin or a bit thicker? (not to be mean at all... I have Snausage fingers) all those things can be part of what size and kind of diamond would looke best on her.
Has she ever commented on rings when she has seen them on other gals or in a store window?

I think a single 17" Sony CRT monitor would do just fine, no need for these $2k+ CRT's you speak of.
But....LCDs are easier on the eyes....they are crystal after all....?

Sounds like he paid close to the appraised value. Appraised value should always be way, way above the price you paid.

I could probably bring myself to spend 2k on a ring. Even at that point I'd be hesitating, but I could probably do it. I'd shoot for more like 1k, though.
