<< Mine won't be in the running to win this competition.

Her: Do you ever think about getting married?
Me: Never.
[Fast forward 4 years]
Her: Do you ever think it would be nice to be married?
Me: Not particularly.
[Fast forward 3 years]
Her: I guess we ought to think about getting married sometime.
Me: Yeah, I guess.

Yup, my girfriend did the same thing, I told her no, I am not ready to marry her or anyone else. It's amazing how they go fishing for proposals sometimes.

. Even though I spent quite a large sum on the actual ring I had gone to Wal-Mart the night before and purchased the smallest CZ I could find for $19.97. I switched the Wal-Mart ring for the real ring when I proposed. She was estatic and I was happy she passed the gold-digger test.

Brilliant! It never ceases to amaze me what you can learn at ATOT!

We could start a whole thread on "what do you eat on your pasties?"

Ketchup for me...my bro's a salsa guy.

hehe.

Viper: pasties (pah'-steez not pay'-steez) are a pastry pocket usually filled with onion, fresh parsley, potato (sometimes), rutabega (always), some kind of meat (oft ground beef....or venison since we're talking about MI here), other ingredients are pretty variable. From what I understand, they appeared with the Cornish miners brought in to work the copper mines in upper MI. They are very filling and would stay hot 'til lunchtime for the men. Often the wives would pinch off a bit of one end and fill it with fruit preserves as a built-in dessert. You can't throw a rock in upper michigan without hitting a place that sells these things. They're a pretty basic meal, but very tasty. I keep uncooked ones in my freezer as they cook in the oven in about the time it takes me to grab a shower and clean up after a mountain bike trip. I'd be happy to send you a recipie if you're curious.

Tauren: bastard. ;)

<< *whoop! whoop!* chick thread alert!

:)

Hey guys, I'm really impressed! You all do have a sensitive side (well, most of you anyway)! Your girls are lucky to have you.

Oh, and congratulations (even if I am a few years late)!

OK, the only pasties I knew of were stick on nipple covers that strippers wear to meet the state requirements.

Vote for me!!! (j/k) But I thought I'd share: I met my wife online on a talker MUD back in Dec 1994 while we were both in college - after seeing each other only during breaks, we got engaged in Aug 1996 & then married in May 1997.

The proposal: I had gotten her an engagement ring with an aquamarine instead of a diamond (her choice). The day I was going to propose, we dined at a nice restaurant, and then I took her to the state park where our first official "date" was. (i.e. the first date we had after meeting face-to-face). There was a small river there that ran underneath a covered bridge - very romantic & pretty. I walked down to the edge of the river & picked up a handful of pebbles. Secretly, I then stuck the ring between my fingers so only the stone was showing with my palm facing up and covered it with the pebbles. I then asked my sweetie if she wanted to see some cool rocks. (Bear in mind that I had gotten my undergrad degree in geology which set it up even better). She said sure (totally unaware of what I had planned). She started poking through the pebbles & immediately spied the aquamarine and asked, "what kind of rock is that?" Then she realized what it *really* was and called me a "stinker" for surprising her like I did. Hehe. I then asked her to be my bride for eternity (on my knees of course).

Being an engineer as I am - I had all sorts of contingency plans in my head in case things didn't go quite right (what if I couldn't find any rocks? what if I can't get down to the river, etc, etc).

Fast forward to the present - just celebrated our 4-year anniversary, have a 2-year old son & life is good.

:)

Here's my story.

I took my girlfriend on a vacation to Virginia Beach, we were at the beach one day, and a plane flew up along the coast. I told her to look it at it, it had a banner that said "Cathy will you marry me?" I got on one knee, proposed, she was crying and said yes, and the people at the beach started clapping hehe.

We were married this past June and life is good :)
